Greyish sorta acrid smelling smoke coming outa the zed tonight :thumbsdown:

Startup---fine bit of condensation, unburnt fuel etc

warmedup---fine, less fuel smell in the exhaust (getting dizzy now)

drive around the block and stop --- bit of smoke coming out, dosn't smell like oil tho...

give it a bit of a rev --- smoke starts a little more in earnest

drive off snap WOT come back --- no smoke

drive with real light throttlefor about 15 min and come to a stop --- sometimes smokes...not consistant tho.

WHATS GOING ON!!! I mean I know what burnt oil smells like, but this smoke smells really harsh, like something acrylic is burning almost...

like a f@%king gasket cooking...

not overheating...

... then unlikely to be catalytic prob., but how's yr fuel economy?

You may be running rich??? Also if pod filter fitted ~ check filter element is not breaking up & being ingested.

 

not the filter...cause i checked for oil in the intake lines...

I'm running frightful rich I know, bout 300k's per 65 odd Litres...

But it just comes and goes like i might be sitting at some lights and i see smoke drifting past the window and it's like 'SHIT!!!' but then give it a good blow out and it's gone...it's almost like something pools up when I'm not running hard and starts to burn off, but then give it a footfull and it all gets blasted out the rear...I'm just a little concerned...

 

How are your PCVs?

 

Some fuel blends will smell OFF, but sounds like combination of>>>

300Km's to 65 Litres, that's really bad dude

I get around 200Km's in the first half and that's giving it a fairly hard time. You done an ECU diagnostic yet?

O2's are new and flucuating like they should...cat dosn't exist...It's been maybe 2 months since my last oil change. I'm just worried bout turbo failure...theres only black/dark grey haze under full boost with a bit of a black/dark grey puff on release...but it's not alot and I mainly constitute this to richness...the car runs smooth, rich to a point of missing a little when warming up, but I've checked all vaccum and boost leaks but can't cure it's pig headed thirst for fuel...so i live with it, i've been meaning to clean the injector plugs but something always gets in the way of me getting under the hood...<sigh>

had it hooked up to caz's computer and everything was normal...except the little needle on AF mixture was stuck over on RICH

 

Colour of smoke?

Sounds like turbo seals to me. Leaking past the seals under vacuum @ extended idle.
Some synthetic oils smell unique.
Hope I'm wrong and it's something simple like PCV valves.

Ok, so would -20 on the boost guage possibly indicate a

stuck PCV in the closed possition?

Regulates the passage of air that is already in the motor I don't believe one stuck closed or open would change the vacuum in the engine.

 

sometimes i get of blue smoke after a few minutes of idling

on a cold start up, goes away after a couple of minutes though, once it goes away it wont come back till the next start up or even a few start ups, its driving me crazy, is it possible my turbos seals are going too? or my valve stem seals? its not really heavy.. pretty light amount of blue smoke.. but enough to reach above your head on a non windy day.. and the smell isnt really strong either :thumbsdown:

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Sitting at lights and exhaust smoke wafts past the front window. I was kind of embarassed and thought someone would take my reg no. Anyway it went away.Don't know if it was the fuel or temperature or what but i dont notice it anymore.

Mine did the same for a while, exactly how you describe. Noticed the smoke coming past my window when sitting at lights. Putting on a brave face and hoping the guy behind me thought I was doing it on purpose, all the while having thoughts that would only match that of a parent watching their kid have projectile vomiting at the bus stop.
It's stopped now, but it's still running rich. If anybody knows a good place in WA for diagnostics, all suggestions are welcome.

 

I think a few of us zedders have to look into this fuel consumption im...

only getting 300km to 65 litres also and iv checked everything to do with rich mixture. Im lost to the point of haveing no idea of what to check next.

we should do a poll on what every one's fuel consumption is on a 65 litre tank in a TT and investigate the bad fuel consumption.

Pumpin it out like gorrila's in the mist tonight....

sitting it that car park we call the gore hill freeway, then all of a sudden it stopped...gone...one minute I'm crouching down thinking, 'don't look at me ' then the air is clear...

So it's compression test time...should i bother asking to borrow a tester or are they relitively cheap?

 

could it just be

a plastic bag or something that got under the car and stuck to the exhaust? Smoke stopped cos it's all burnt away now.
