Well I found out today my drivers-side turbo is fuxored! Its blown shavings into the intercooler and there is a 5mm play in the fan. Been blowing smoke for a while so I guess I knew it was coming. Ive also been told its an engine out job, plus its obviously better to do both turbos at the same time. Anybody else had this done in a shop? How much do you think Id be up for in Sydney? Is it worth replacing or rebuilding my current housings? Anything else should be done while the engine is out? So far Ive been quoted $2000 per turbo for rebuild with ball bearings, plus $2000 in labour to pull the engine (and back in)... so $6000 for turbos alone. Really appreciate any feedback you guys have.
What can I say GT28R's even at the more expensive price now are still cheaper than that. $2000 to pull the engine replace the turbos and refit is about $800 too much based on quotes I have seen.
Try Precision Turbos in Sydney I think rebuilds started at around $400 per turbo. The number is 9756 5757 Cheers, I know your pain Geoff
Personally i wouldn't rebuild stock turbos, you are better off fitting some aftermarket upgrades for that kind of money, but keep in mind you may also need to change your dumps
In Victoria, that might be, but>> Not in NSW Graham. I've priced this with several motor engineering places in Sydney & they all came up around $2000 to $2500 just to pull the motor & replace it, nothing about what it would cost for the Turbo's to be R & R. From your figures I can only assume that the mechanics in Vic are a cheap lot.:LOL: "Ducking for cover, NOW" Cheers Kerry
Someone saw you coming Kerry with that figure. Find a good mechanic to do the pull of the engine and take your Turbos to MTQ Engine Systems (Formerly Dynamic Turbos) in Weatherill Park. Have dealt with them on numerous occasions and are really weel priced and professional. Discuss your turbo options with them. Recondition of current turbos $485 $250 for Hiflow Maybe a little extra for your rooted one for a new shaft or bearings! MattB:thumbsup:
Listen Wookie >> The Turbos will probably cost you the figure that you have mentioned, for a rebuild, I'm not disputing that. But Garretts charge about the figure mentioned for a New Turbo that has Roller Bearings & larger Turbine Wheel. But the cost to pull your motor & put it back in will cost you bloody heaps. You will need to do this to get both Turbos out, although I seem to remember someone on the forum saying that there mechanic did the job without pulling the motor, but it took him ages & a skin graft to replace the missing skin on his knuckles.:embarrassed: The original question asked was about the cost to remove/replace a motor for work to be done on the Turbos. See ya Saturday Matt Kerry
Seems the turbos have blown shavings into the motor itself so it looks like I might need to go for a half cut? Shit happens I guess? :zlove:
