sup members! im a new proud owner of a Aus-Spec zed 32 and wrapped about joining the club. Ive had the zed car a week and now getten all the initial servicing done... Ill propably use a 10/40 spec synth oil. Looks like my whole tailshaft is shot both uni's and the centre uni and centre bearing. A recon looks looking like 500 including balancing. Any body recently done theirs to give me an idea? IS it worth making a one peice for the money? Hope to crooze with SA crew soon. Cheers ~Azzurro zed 32 ~
If you have the resources, consider a one piece tailshaft and leave out the centre bearing. Some on this site have done this - ask Chili. If your uni joints are shot then they need to be modifiied as I think they are a machined unit. As I said, I'd look at a one piece tailshaft. cheers, Peter
Welcome I don't have any thoughts on your question as I am new myself, but I wanted to say welcome to the forum. :zlove::zlove::zlove:
a one piece is definately worth the money. i got a quote for a one piece to be made up and installed for $440 in sydney. they use much larger and stronger uni joints as well. far better option i reckon:zlove:
Get a one peice tail shaft You also get a few extra KW at the wheels. You will need that on your AUS spec NA as they where detuned for low octane unleaded.
TailShaft - cheers Cheers Fellas FOR ALL YA HELP Looks like im gonna get Hardy Spicer (08) 83496400 in SA to fabricate a single shaft for the N/A 2+2 but ill make sure it is interchangable with the TT 2+2 setup. They can also ballance the shaft upto 8,000rpm! The only other place is Adelaide Tailshafts (08) 82629691, and the Repco Workshop for a stock (recon) but they seem too dear. See ya's on the road soon. ~aZZuRRo ZeD 32~
Help also!!! I too have only had my zed on the road for a week, have joined too, and can't believe the help I've got already. Bought with a blown motor, (which has been pulled down to find what happened, a disgrace, brand new timing belt out by 3 causing, the worst damage we've ever seen) the motor has been replaced. The only prob is a vibration through the body work which has been narrowed down to the tailshaft, we think??? Is this how you know they are on their way out, a rumbly sort of vibration when at speed? Thanks R
lol, yeah 6 actually Ive had the pleasure of hanging around a few drag people, been for a ride in a couple of 10 and 9 sec cars, although its certainly a blast, its not what I want anymore, Im building a Street/track car that is well rounded and enjoyable to drive, which is what most people here are doing. Ive had some priority shifts and life changes latley, ive become a little less power hungry after nearly dying in the supra. Im going back to the most enjoyable car ive ever driven, which is saying a lot since ive driven loads of very nice cars.
Well that is genuinely great to hear.... (not the priority shifts 'cos they usually suck) but it's nice to see your head has aged a couple of years. Good luck with getting your new Zed together.
Have a look at the Gearbox mount 1st. Once the g/b mount sags it causes a LOT of vibration. I just fixed mine. I must admit, I thought that it was the tailshaft universal joints causing this as I recently replaced the centre bearing and the vibration was still there. Funny though the g/b mount was a BIG contributing factor in the scheme of things. Amazing. Peter
Shaft Im ringing them on Monday first thing and droppin off my "thrashed out 2 peice" at Hardy Spicer (SA) on Churchill Rd North. They will ring up Hardy Spicer in Liverpool (NSW) to get the exact spec 1 peice shaft that "ChillI" has in his TT 2+2. They have made his and a track spec (racing shaft) for Unique Autos in Sydney before. Not sure on the cost but in theory the pipe work isnt much, ill save $300 in parts (the centre bearing and centre Uni) and ballancing is $100, so cant be to much more than the recon 2 peice. Chilli paid $500 not long ago. Ill loose 5-6kg in total wieght and that is alot in terms of centrifugal forces placed on the shaft. Gain some R-KW too. The new shaft is expected to be capable of 8,000rpm and TT Kw ready! John Moyl Motor Engineering at Enfield SA (08) 8269 6067 is my trusted engineer and will fit the shaft. This should all be done this week hopefully and ill let every 1 know the results. Cheers  Azzurro:
Oh that thing? Hehehe, Im still pedaling around in it, I went for a test drive in a Z the other day, I had forgotten what A nice car they are, boy I miss the turbo rush :zlove: Amoung air conditioning, light steering and a turning circle less than a mack truck
Thanks man Im sourcing something nice to fill the hole left by the last one, such incredible machines god I miss them :zlove:
Just did mine Hi, Just replaced the whole driveshaft with a genuine unit. I had replaced the centre bearing 2000 k's ago. That fixed the 40kph vibration but then one arounf 75kph was noticed. Yep, the universals were stuffed. It cost $1600 including fitting. As I have a 2+2 the extra length really prohibits the use of a one piece shaft. Its low enough without worrying bout the tail shaft clearance. Also, the driveline workshops I had spoken to would not guarantee no vibration. Since the new shaft, I am free of all vibration. No cheap option when it comes to uni and safety!!!
It had really crappy tyres on it, we are talking 4 different brand rubbers one for each wheel  I was waiting to install the new rims as they were designed to work with the widebody kit I had. The Car aquaplained coming around a corner at 50kph, and I went side on into a curb, my head went through the window and got cut up pretty badly, Sarah my girl was fine
