In a perfect world, mechanics wouldnt be needed.

Well risky...that's hard to argue with...

I agree that if you don't get a written quote/agreement on the price then you should at least be prepared to open your wallet...regardless of the company.

I'm gonna think long and hard about this one now.

At the end of the day...

In my books, Daves place is on par with any of the best in Perth. If you want absolute perfection, with phone calls every day at 8am to update you, a running quote with exact ETA to time out the door, flowers and chocolates on arrival, dyno tuning without a dyno, and never any mistakes or accidents then good luck finding the place and be sure to give me the number when you do. Until then Im more than satisfied with the service and quality of the work from Precise. Going other places, at best you will get equal quality, at worst you will pay for it in the end.

    Dave should of at least....>>

told you that it was gonna cost a shit load more than what he Quoted in the first place "before" he did any more work on it, My mech always asks for permission to do any EXTRA work and I'm always aware of the extra cost BEFORE he starts --- its called "COMMUNICATION"

Thats all I would be paying if he hadn't told you or asked if he do extra work
    And, Nathan, you said,

Why did they Quote $2000 max??? Its not like the Quote was done over the phone  I HATE MECH'S THAT BAIT YOU THEN SLUG YOU !!!

PS. Nathan and Risk must not be easy TARGETS like you WILD, I feel for you mate :zlove:

    cheers, Michael. :zlove: :zlove: :zlove:

    Try reading the posts

He was informed of all work needing to be done before it was performed.
Wild came into the shop asking for a turbo repair as that is what 2 other mechanics told him was the problem, the turbo leaking oil. He was quoted for that specific job. By your logic every single quote should include the cost for a full rebuild, just in case. Thats rediculous.

    yeah agreed but

Dave told me did i want to replace things like oil rings and things which are worn while the engine is out...

i said yeah might as well cause i dont want to take the engine out again...

not bitchin but not once did i get a phone call from him about how much it was costing. Actually i tried to ring him several times about how the price was going cause like many people im not made of money and i was getting worried seeing it was only supose to be there for 3-4 days and he said he hasn't worked it out yet every time. after numourous calls he faxed me a copy labour was 1000 more than i thought it would be and it was 1300 in parts that i didnt know about. i did expect however parts to be around $500 though.

I have read the posts, and now I have read your reply Nathan......>

BUT was only quoted $2000 MAX, Then a month later he was given a $4261 bill. You don't think there is a problem there Nathan? Now if he was told to disregard the original quote and was given another,he wouldn't be making a fuss about the bill then would he???

Like I said in my previous post all of this could of, should of been avoided if there had been some....

    Cheers Michael :zlove:

Your reasoning still sounds rediculous to me

So if you take your car into a mechanics for a service and he tells you that you badly need say the timing belt changed and water pump, you think that they owe you these items as they have only quoted you for your service? Please tell me what mechanic works like that so I can take my car there for my next rebuild, err service.

Wild was quoted for a turbo removal and repair which is what he asked them to do. Later he had to pay additional because the cams had siezed. So your either telling me that they should have xray vision, should quote every customer for a rebuild just in case, or accept all extra costs for damaged items they find along the way. Not very realistic and that seems to be the point your trying to argue.

I think what Wild is annoyed about is he wasn't told...

...about how much extra cost incurred would be which IMO is fair enough.

    NATHAN, ............

If I took my car to a mech for a service and he quoted $500, then he said, you badly need the timing belt and water pump changed, I would of said "How Much?" and if it was in my price range I'd say "do it" and if it wasn't I'd say "Next time as I dont have the extra money" In other words, I'll be giving him instruction whether to proceed or not after he has told me HOW MUCH it would cost. I would expect this to be the norm.

I'm 100% sure, If WILD had any idea this was gonna cost him $5500, He would not have repaired the motor but may have replaced it, an option that was not available to him, but should have been, MHO.

I agree Michael, $2300 over quote & not even a phone call is a bit RUDE.

Seeing as he actually provided the parts himself

I fail to see how you can presume that this wasnt discussed with him. Who drops of a head and cams to their mechanics when they were having a turbo repaired and doesnt realise there is extra costs involved? How can it possibly be that these extra costs arent discussed when they were talking about the repairs that needed work? How else did WILD know he need a new head? If I was a mechanic and someone came and dropped a head into me and said install this into my car, I would take that as an instruction to proceed, wouldnt you? Yet your still sitting here and trying to argue that somehow this wasnt discussed with him. Again, your comments sound good in theory but I have no idea how you think it applies to this situation. Your obviously reading something into this that Im not seeing.

To me it sounds like he didnt bother discussing it with them at the time, then somehow expected them to use their telepathy to know he later wanted another quote. WILD says he called several times later for a quote, but then again WILDs story already has lots of holes in it, and I dont think weve heard anything close to the whole story.

Umm, just a question- why is everyone getting involved?

Isn't this between WILD and the mechanic to sort out?

I remember an epic saga with MrTT and a certain workshop up here in Brisbane where everyone and their dog wanted to have their two cents input, but at end of the day I think that just inflamed the situation and certainly didn't do the workshop's reputation any favours. Supporters of that workshop flamed back big time which only served to lower the workshop's reputation even further...

My two cents: This argument is turning into a battle of wits and isn't helping ANYONE...

    Move on...!

"everyone else" is involved because it was posted on the forum....

i agree, its between the mechanic and WILD.... it shouldnt of been posted here... but if people are gonna post on the forum and start slagging off a company, surely its only fair to defend them as they are not here to defend themselves....

Agreed, but I think the point's been made several times over:(

I'm the last one who should complain about long rambling off-subject threads but I just think each side has had their say.

Wow this one created quite a stir.

I agree with K-Zed the point has been made several times over it is good to know of experiences with mechs but i think this should only be done after the whole saga has been worked through and finalised. Just me two cents.
