As some of you may have read about the 10sec vl i will be buying, it would be great if that motor would fit in a zed. has anyone seen an RB30 motor in a ZED?
does anyone know if they will fit?
I would be willing to mount the turbo on top if it had too but i dont think that would be the main problem.

It would be too long wouldnt it?

Would it be a good idea?
What about the trans from the vl? would that fit?
Dont forget it has about 350rwkw so it would be worth the conversion

    Peace.
    Matt

Not sure about the rb30 but.....

I have seen pics of zeds with RB26's in them. If the engine size is the same, then I'm assuming you could fit in an RB30. As for the rans, I have no idea.

    Cheers

If you've got the money, any thing is possible ....

The question here you really want to answered is "Is it affordable to fit a worked RB30 into a zed?"

    Wouldn't be worth it IMO...

why not keep the engine in the VL, it is a lot lighter. I've seen a conversion done the other way, VG30 into a VL & like others have stated the RB26 into a Z32 has been done before so I'm sure it's possible.
Bottom line, each to their own but personally I wouldn't bother. The RB30 is a old engine and parts are becoming hard to find.

Im after the best of both worlds :D

the power of the RB30 and the style and handling of a zed :zlove:

Jedi RB30 is just a 3lt not a 2.6lt, so it would be a tiny bit bigger..
And X-rated, maybe you havnt heard about whats in the RB30?
Maybe it would help to wring a conversion specialist?

I'm gonna get lynched for this, but I reckon just buy the VL....

You obviously want a 10sec car, which will cost you a bit to get out of a Z.

If you can make some money selling the Z and buying the VL, you can satify that need and then get rid of the VL later on when it becomes old hat...and it will, coz the car has less class than a Z.

Personally, I wouldn't, but once you start talking engine conversions, etc, etc, IMHO you need to choose one or the other if you're on a budget.

Who knows, you may be able to buy a Z cheaper when you get around to replacing the VL.

    That's my take on it.

rb30 is not bigger then rb26 it has more stroke possibly bore

hence the reason why all the rb are like lego because blocks are all very similar. Vg30 is superior over the rb30 but rb30 will be cheaper to modify. Money costed to buy vl then conversion and engineer motor into z will make a vg30 engine waste this rb30 setup any day.

    Been done.

The Sammut brothers 300zx that ran 7's was powered by an RB30!
But this is a rolling chasis.

Not without some serious engine bay mods

The RB30 head is rather tall and as we all know, the zed engine bay slopes down at the front; I believe the motor would have to sit alot lower than normal in the body.

Id be thinking RB25 with an RB30 head rather than a complete RB30.

But personally I wouldn't bother; if you're going to do an engine conversion; why not go a worked 5l V8. You'd get the same power, roughly same weight and you wouldn't have the issue of lag!

    ...and the engine note mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    V8's?

Nah, too hard to get serious power out of a pushrod dinosaur. I'd drop a V8 Toyota in if one needed that burble.
I reckon a VQ35 TT is the go if you seriously want to do a transplant on the Z. :)
How about a nasty RB30 in an LJ Torana? Or a 120Y maybe? Datsun 1600?
    :)

LJ Torana? Or a 120Y maybe? Datsun 1600?--> Yuck!

You'l never ever see me in one of those, maybe a torana but thats it!

Why does everyone think this is a waste of time????

Its an absolute weapon, its 500hp how wouldnt it be worth it?
    you go to upgrade a zed and its;
    2k fmic
4k for biggest turbo upgrades (for both)
    2k nismo injectors
    1.7k pistons
1.1 for rods(cheapest set on ttzed)
= $8 900 for PARTS ONLY, not incl. taking the motor out and rebuilding everthing..
that is the cost of the complete vl with the motor/trans/diff in it!!!

And chewy i need to speak the seller about exactly what the motor has in it.

So spend the 9g's on the zed parts then a few thousand for the labour

Then you'll cream the VL and look good doing it

and you think a RB30 conversion is going to be cheap

then think again. I bet you wouldn't get any change from about $7000 for such a conversion.

    Just curious.....

but do you know the condition of this VL motor??? If its running at 28psi or whatever it was, thats one stressed motor. Just make sure the motor checks out if ever you decide to buy it.

    Cheers

    Are you serious?

I know of GenIII 5.7l's with a zorst, air filter and a tune making 250rwkw.

I know of others with a mild cam, tune, zorst, custom air intake making 330rwkw.

It doesn't take much to get big HP out of them!

    5.7L of cheap wine :p

I have been told they are aren't geared like jap cars that's why it takes a lot more power for them to be able to beat less powered jap cars?

That and they weigh a bit more.
Though I would have to give a lot of though if I was able to buy a VY SS Ute or marloo, but that's too expensive, I can just dream, of having both the zed and the Ute ?

I tell my mate who wants to buy a GEN III VY Ute so he can smoke me is... The money you would have to spend to get the base car could better be used to get say a jap car and pocket the change and build it up with good fruit and have a lot more power.

    EDIT:
Any one know how good the new BA v8's are for power extraction. I dont know of any one with one.

If we are talking new cars.....

I've heard you can get some insane power out of the new XR6 turbo's.
    Anyone know exactly??
