    I hear you

Driving the econo rolla. Man I feel scared to drive it.

It feels so sloppy and dangerous at any given speed.

It was even raining a few weeks back and I was in it and I was approaching a set of lights that went orange, still plenty of braking distance time in the zed but I forgot I was driving a shit box so put the brakes on and the car and locked up the front and had the pulse brake all the way to the line at the intersection.
Just stopped in time. crappy 185 bicycle tires.
It Should be mandatory for cars to have bigger tires than what some ecno box's come out with.

Franz, do you really think that statement is fair?

Franz, it used to be that learners spent 2 years on P plates and 24hrs supervised driving (what i went through), and still turned out to be quite expensive. You said that "if u cant afford to be on the road, you shouldnt be there". So ur saying that if a 17yr old cant afford the new (significantly) higher prices, they dont deserve or shouldnt be allowed to drive a car to get themselves around?

Anyway, i agree with you that power:weight is pointless. Most kids who act like dickheads drive either econoboxes or old commys - either way, they arent safe at hoon speeds.

Btw Franz, i still dont have my car, its coming though - which is why i dont go to the track - and i dont think dad would appreciate it if i took his Magna down there for a session :D

Thats more that car in particular.

Even the biggest of econoboxes are smooth - even at speed.

I have sat at 160kph on the highway cruising before in my Lancer and she cruised safely, quietly and happily - even fuel consumption went down to 6litres/100km's as it was at peak torque rpm.

    Veep:

Yep! If person x can't afford to even get their license what are the chances that person x is going to have a roadworthy car or can afford to maintain it. Granted they may borrow cars or use cars provided by their work - but thats not a long term solution. In Australia its waaaaay too easy to get a drivers license; do you know how expensive and how hard it is to get a license in Germany? We should adopt some of their rules and guidelines in being able to qualify having a drivers license.

Again, wrong mindset - when does driver training have to be hard on your car; ever seen the DriveSafe/DriveSkill/AHG courses; they are not hard on your car at all - if anything they open your eyes at how slow you can go and still get it all wrong - not all driver training is related to speed and motorsport.

Pretty easy to get a licence

Got in the ndrivers seat for the first time when I was 20. I got my licence with only 30hours experience behind the wheel.

Unfortunatly I had no one to help me outside the lessons. I guess I was eager to get the licence, seeing as I had already bought my car. Test drove it with only 3 hours prior experience! (the guy did know by the way)

I'm not a crazy driver which is probably why I haven't lost a point. (but yes I have made plenty of mistakes out there enough to lose a licence all up  ) But I see so many crazy P plate drivers, speed, weave in and out of traffic, never indicate etc. I cant blame the cops for thinking we are bad drivers going to kill ourselves!

That being said. Its only those in the econoboxes and commonwhores I see that mainly do that behaviour.

Lancers must be better than the older rolla

160km/h its reving its guts out making a racket not feeling smooth at all.

Sounds and feels like the engine would go bang.

    Quite Rude

It's unfair saying that all P-platers are hoons and drunks, although some of the people at my school are, but the rest of us shouldn't be punished for their stupidity. Limiting the amount of hours we can spend on the road won't help us gain anymore experience either how are we suppose to get experience if you limit the amount the hours we can spend on the road. (BTW getting your licence in WA isn't that easy for some, guy at my school took 6 times to get phase2 and another 5 to get his P's ):p

    Re: Quite Rude

Its people like this that I fear most... if it takes him 5 attempts to show an instructor that he's competent to drive on the street in "normal" daylight situations - how is he going to deal with rain or night driving - or the worst driving condition: rain at night?

Add traffic, peer pressure and possibly a less than adequate roadworthy car (being a student this is common place) - thats a lethal combination.

I sincerely hope this guy gets some proper driver training, if not to boost his skills, to build his self confidence.
