I have an Aus-Spec and lately I'd been having issues with it idling low, especially when cold. It wasn't anything 'superbad' and the car was still quite drivable so i persevered as its going in for a major service within the next couple of weeks.
Now I went to leave for uni this arvo and it had seemingly gotten worse over night, driving down my street the engine refused to rev over about 2.5k revs and going down Burwood Hwy it sounded horrible and was struggling at about 50kms.
I pulled straight into my local mechanic and he and I spent the last hour and a half trying different things, but with no success.
My mechanic said it seems like its not getting any fuel but we checked fuel pressure and its all good, I also filled up last night with shell optimax.
We also checked just about every single connection we could see for corrosion, and sprayed them with contact cleaner. A couple were a bit green, notably the one that hooks to the left front of the plenum and also a smallish one (yellow plug I think) thats front and centre just ahead of the block.
Now I went on holiday for a couple of weeks about 2 weeks back so the car wasn't run during this period. Beforehand it was fine, but a bit iffy once I came back. Please people any suggestions??? Im dying here!!!

    Air flow meter perhaps?

from not revving over 2500revs might mean the AFM is playing up

    Thanks, another question though...

Great thanks for the suggestion, but could you possibly impart some more wisdom... How do I determine whether or not the AFM is playing up? Is there a simple check or is it a matter of removing the AFM and closely inspecting it?

    heres what i done

i had the same issues and went to an import parts place (the toy shop)
and asked them could i bolt one on to see if that was what it was, they said yes so i bolted her on went for a drive and itwas fine so i bought it.
i would suggest this method to determine if it was the airflow meter.
btw when my car hit around 3500 rpm it lost all power and felt like you had hit the brakes then once the revs dropped all was fine.
    hope this helps
    regards brett

    You could try.....>>

An ECU diagnostic to see if you get any error codes. Both the TPS (the one that hooks to the left front of the plenum) and the ECU temperature sender (smallish one (yellow plug I think) thats front and centre just ahead of the block) are important in controlling the running of your engine.

    Still having problems...

Ok, looks like my problems are related to corrosion in the connections for the ECU temperature sender and the TPS.
Checked loads of places for the 'little metal thingies' (technical term) that you connect to the wires and are then inserted into the plugs, but no where stocks them. Does anyone have a secret stash???
Then talked to Z Shop, they suggested replacing the whole ECU temperature sender plug with a similar item from a vl commodore altered to fit. Again talked to numerous stores and found the desired plug in a couple, problem, it's still attached to the loom and they wont cut it off.
Any idea where I can locate the 'little metal thingies' or failing that complete new plugs (but not a whole loom)
