Why is it so hard to find an honest person?

If your in WA do NOT use Mobile Cabinet Making Services. They are in Malaga.I ended up using them to get some cabinet work done and since my girlfriend was the only one home he tried adding some extra money to his quote given previously to cover him driving to the shop for some doors that he knew he needed.Anyway so I email him and ask him to keep his original quote (a difference of $25) and he goes totally nuts and reckons he wont be mistreated (hes offended because my g/f asked him why the plumber also wants extra money for installing a double drawer dishwasher) and I cant prove what he quoted me. So now Im out a couple of cabinet doors that he had kept and a deposit for the doors. I swear it seems like all dishonest losers become tradesman or mechanics.

It would seem like the trend everywhere :s

I don't know what the industry is like over your way doc. In Tassie at the moment, tradesmen are in such high demand it seems they can do as they please!!!I have been waiting around 8 weeks to get three quotes. In saying this I have asked for around 10 different companies to quote and they simply don't show up. Two of the three have changed their original quotes (still coming in cheaper than the third) but that isn't the point! It would seem they have been ringing round their prospects in order to see who is willing to pay the most for them to start work!LMAO....All this for a bloody kitchen I'll probably never use!!!!

Just got done by an electrician

but Iv'e sure learned from it. No more accepting verbal quotes... every detail now has to be written down. Beware, shonks everywhere.

I once got a shifty shed company to reverse a dishonest move by threatening to march up and down outside their premises with a sign saying unfavourable things about them. If you do this make sure what you say is true. Regards,    Duey.

    Malaga?

I used to live in Malaga. :) in the south of Spain though. :)
Yes, I have plenty of problems with tradesman... I had a plumber quote me $300 for a job once and tried to charge me $600 when he was finished. I called his bluff and told him to undo all the work he'd just done and he finally agrreed to the original quote.
But the best one was the concreting I got done at my last place... I pointed out the Telstra line next to the power box and ensured he knew it was there and not to concrete over it, and well, he concreted over it. (and then tried to deny responsibility and told me to get an electrician to find it) yeah sure, like I'm going to pay someone to fix his mistakes LOL he said "not my problem" and I reminded him I owe him $3.5k and would he rather fix it himself or should I employ someone on his behalf to fix it? He fixed it the next day! concretors aren't real high on the food chain normally.
Bah, I've had sooo many problems with trades people... one mob even built my pool 400mm under the pre-arranged datum point and then forged documents relating to this. (luckily the GF kept the originals and in the end I nearly got a free pool when they faxed me forged documents with my signature cut and pasted)
Sad but true, so many dodgy tradespeople around and the good ones are overloaded with work and charge whatever they want.

Return the favour by playing mind games Doc!

Knowing his name and phone number allows you to find his address. Then on a Saturday night, ring up and get a few pizzas delivered to his place from different pizza makers (dominos, and pizza hut are good starters) on the same night. The first time, he will like it, by the second third and fourth pizza he will really get the shits. Or if you really want to be an arsehole ring up a nursery and get them to dump a heap of manure/roadbase/sand/(whatever suits your fancy) onto his front lawn and get the bill invoiced to him left in the letter box. Roadbase ends up like concrete after rain. For info also have a look at www.ripoffmerchant.net for a lighter side. Sorry to hear you got done over
