hey guysi say my my Z runs pretty nice most of the time, as far as problems go, well i havent really had any. but something that has bothered me for quite some time is the idle, the idle isnt rough but its not 100% right something is not right, i wouldnt say something is wrong but something just aint right, tonight i put my car on the turbo timer for 5 mins and let it idle down.while the car idles there is a vibration that goes through the car kind of like a pulse, its not really noticeable nor can you hear it but the car has a slight shake to it, i was telling Maciek that when i had my oakleys resting on the front chair and the car was idling the arms of my glasses were shaking and vibrating about 1cm. the idle isnt rough and any normal person wouldnt notice itive checked for boost leaks
    compression
    its not missing
    not plugs
    not injectors
    not fuel pump
    Could be PTU
    Could be AFM
incomparison to my work BA falcon, if the idle on the falcon is a 10 out of 10 my Z would be a 6 or 7, when you lift the bonnet you cant see the engine shake but when i did the screwdriver knock test the engine was transferring some tiny vibrations to the screwdriver, so the engine was shaking, but only slightly, its probably being exaggerated through the chasis of the car.could it be somehting like a harmonic balancer or something like that? well if you get this far into reading this post, can you let me know if your car idles perfect, mine doesnt shake enough to say make a 20c coin fall on its side if it was sittin on the engine
but inside the car on the seat.... something isnt right

    /end rant :)

by the way. when i idle at 900-1000 the

the vibration seems to vanish.........almost like its stabalising. that help anyone?

Yeah I can notice a little bit of a shake...

on idle, most wouldn't notice it but it is definately there. Has me a little worried, used to be smooth as (from memory), but I think since the ud pulley was put on its been a little rougher. Either that or I just didn't notice it at first. Not sure what it is though.

Amazing you asked this question b/c i have

been thinking the same thing!!! for a few months now.My car @ idle has a slight vibration to it also and it goes right through it. Over 1K and it is smooooth. It feels almost like it has a modified cam or something like that.It was only last night that I was looking at my wifes U12 Pintara and it is perfect at idle no vibration what so ever. I expect the same out of the ZThe Z however is about I'd put it @ 7-8/10
Its got me puzzled big time. I have no vaccum leaks, new electrical connectors but do have and Lightened crank pulley - weird....

this is weird then - ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE?

lets keep following up on thisi dont have any aftermarket boltons, std auto flexplate, std pulleys and so on,lets keep this rolling i wanna find out what it is

    My car.....

idles smooth above 800rpm. Any less and it shakes a little, but only I would notice it. Sometimes when I have the A/C on, it idles quite rough but I think that is a problem with my IAA unit as it doesnt seem to hold revs. I've got to pull it out and give it a good clean. At the moment, the car idles nicely. I can put a 50 cent coin on the throttle cable cover on top of the engine while the engine is running, and it wont fall off.

i too can rest a 50c coin but

    is there a shake?

    Try replacing your fuel dampener..>>

and if you have some spare cash the fuel regulator as well. If you have just a little more $ then also replace both PCV valves.I believe that you have an intermittent fuel pressure problem consistent with worn dampener and regular. In fact, replacing these components should be part of a 100k service.

    there's a little shake.......

but I'm certainly not worried about it. Loud new noises worry me, but a little shake that only I can notice does not worry me. Of course if my car ran like crap, blew smoke and drove like a pig then I would be concerned. But thankfully, at the moment its not..:)Cheers

My PCVs are brand new and still have the

slight shaking. But the Fuel pressure reg. and fuel dampener - interesting.Peter

    While these are worth replacing....

I don't think these components will make much difference to the idle.

My motor also shakes at idle below 900rpm. The whole car vibrates when it is idling. I recently installed a new fuel pressure regulator, dampener, and six new nismo 555cc injectors. The idle is just as shakey with these new components, if not more now. The car runs very smoothly other than the idle. I don't believe I have any vacuum leaks. The only other thing I can think of that could be the cause of the problem is the IAA/AACV.

One other thing that comes to mind that could contribute to it is worn motor mounts. I have noticed that my fuel pump whines when idling sometimes, so I'm going to buy a fuel pressure gauage and see if fluctuating fuel pressure really can cause a lumpy or shakey idle.I am also going to try fiddling with the injector latency in my ECU program a bit to see if I can improve the idle slightly. This parameter drastically affects the idle.Patrick

Long shot... but trid resetting your ECU?

I recently had a little too high idle that didn't respond to adjustment. 1100RPM, not really a problem- just annoying. My battery died and in the course of the 12 hours overnight when I reconnected the new battery, voilia= smooth, 850RPM idle...I heard something somewhere about resetting the ECU clears any bad 'habits' it has 'learnt'.Probably no mechanical/electrical reason, but it did fix the prob...

It comes into operation at random times, this has been one of them.:p I was checking the insulation tape on my wiring harness, and it's NOT evenly wrapped, could this be causing my H/Lights to seem dim:?) ;) You have too much time on your hands Chickenbum.:D Cheers

    Just a question Chicken.....>>

And also to anyone else who has posted with similar symptoms. How are you measuring the idle RPM of the engine. The factory gauge in my zed reads high by about 10% and I've heard of a number of other cars where the gauge is equally inaccurate. If the gauge in your car was out by a similar value then an idle speed of 750rpm would actually be only 675rpm. This added with normal wear and tear of engine items, such as engine mounts, could cause you to believe you have a vibration. The fact that the engine smooths out when idling at 800rpm to 900rpm (720 to 810 if the gauge is out) could prove this point. It could also be that your worry meter is reading a little high and I strongly urge you to relax and take a few deep breaths.

Well if it makes you feel any better..

My g/f 2002 peugot 206 idles about as badly as the Z.When I brought this up during a service they said 'These cars always idle a little rough'... Same could be said for the Z I guess.Have you cleaned your IAAVs? Mines been off the road for 4 months now (laziness) after cleaning these and noticing that the plastic connectors are rooted. It could be a connection [problem to the IAAV thats causing it to phase in and out. (like mine)Cheers
