I picked up my import 300ZX TT from the docks today. What an ordeal, it took hours!Anyway, it runs (rough) and was (extremely) dirty. The biggest problem I've noticed so far is that the headlight wiring is absent. Looking at the headlight assembly from inside the engine bay, there is literally no wiring going to any of the 4 globes. And I can't see the wiring anyway - there are no plugs hanging loose. Here's a picky of one of them:

I've sprayed the connectors on the MAF with CRC but it made no difference. Any suggestions what else to try on this?Last thing: 1988 RX7 For sale:

    see what you mean. :s

id have agood look at the harness around that area. i cant remeber exactly where the conector should come out with out looking at my own. but unless they have been cut out and the wire stubs covered over , its gota be there somewhere. id have a good look in amongst the hoses and pipes. as for your AFM if the contacts are clean it could be faulty. or worse its wires could have gone under th knife as well. (doubt it though)sounds like you had a bit of hard luck with your import. best of luck getting it sorted out.(i guess that the advantage of paying that little bit extra for buying one thats already here, at least you can look, touch, drive and smell it before parting with your cash)

No I haven't reset the ECU. That sounds like a good idea, where can I find some info on how to do that?
    Thanks

While resetting ECU, some jobs >>>

    >>> disconnect battery for 30 minutes minimum, to reset ECU.During that period, pull each engine bay electrical connector apart, inspect and clean.Use 'contact cleaner' or similar to clean, paying particular attention to MAF, Temp Sensor, & TPS plugs. Also check for broken or damaged wires to the plugs.Check all coil packs too. Once battery reconnected, re-start and all 'hopefully' will be well. If not, check for vacuum leaks ....

who did you buy the import from???

or did you import it personally yourself??? I would think it would be illegal to sell a car without working headlights, unless the car has been bought for parts or came over as a half cut or something??Cheers

purchased through www.prestigemotorsport.com.auWho knows what happened during transit or while it was sitting in storage since last august. It's been a long time coming! It's also been scratched on the nose cone which shits me a bit!

    If purchased through an importer.....

it should be their responsible to make sure the car checks out, especially for something as important as functioning headlights. I would harrass them about it. As for the scratches, were they there in Japan. You should have recieved a "grade" for the condition your car was in while in Japan. If by the time it arrives here, it has more damage or doesnt match the grade, then your importer should fix it. When my car arrived, it had a badly bubbled rear spoiler and had recieved some transit damage in the voyage. My importer repaired both of these items with no charge to me. In the end, I was told my car was a grade 4, and I expected a grade 4 car when I handed the money over, not a grade 3. Cheers

If you can wait that long

come to the tech day on June 13th (see Events discussion). Every Z should get a once over after it arrives from the docks (especially if it's a lil' sick).... we can go over it then and see what we can get going right.Ben
