Ive noticed that the setup on a FMIC redirects the boost from the turbos to opposite throttle bodies. Am i interpreting this right??? If so does this affect the running of the car in anyway? or does any other mods needs to be done??

    Yes, you are correct

But this is of little consequence. Pressure is equalised once it reaches the intake manifold anyway via the balance tube.

    Yes that is correct.....

And yes it does affect performance. If you do a search on front mounts on twinturbo.net you will see some very good technical discussions (and a lot of bitch fighting) about why this is so and why this setup is bad for a twin throttle body car like ours.In all practical purposes if your keeping stock turbos I dont think the performance degredation in reality is any problem. It is debateable if they function better in terms of cooling than side mounts and I think likely not. If your concerned about performace then go sidemounts. If you like the looks then by all means go front mount. When aiming for higher HP figures, these were the main problems I found with my front mount. 1) Pressure inbalance unable to be equalised through the stock balance tube. This was measured with my motec sensors. 2) Difference in cooling and air charge between the two banks. One of the hardpipes was very warm, the other quite cool.I had to put a balance pipe across the throttle bodies to equalise the pressures. The temp issue comes from the top row of the intercooler being too high in the car and being blocked by the plastic guard, hence not recieving enough airflow. This guard has now been mostly removed. What affect was it having on performance. Well on the dyno my power curve would get a big dip in it at 5500rpm or so, greatly affecting my max torque and power. Starting cool was ok, but worsened as the car got warmer. What I would do, if I were doing it again would be to make an intercooler that ran vertically. i.e. end tanks above and below the intercooler rather than at the sides like they are now. This makes cooling even and gases going where they were intended to go.

    not correct...

mine was clearly not with pressure sensors to prove it.

so if you were going bigger turbos, would

you still stick with side mount coolers in your opinion?

doesn't the right hand turbo feed the left

hand throttle body and vice versa in a standard side mounted intercool setup anyway?

    Nope >>

The right hand turbo feeds the right hand throttle body but then it flows into the left hand head due to the crossover plenum.

    beside the point...

The fact that the balance tube was not large enough to equalise YOUR larger amount of pressure is beside the point.. The fact is, it's not going to matter which side you feed the air from each turbo into.....except with a FMIC the actual path the air has to travel is much larger than with SMICs.

    Performance wise yes....

However I like the look of a frontmount, so I would get a vertical frontmount fitted, which if you can imagine is basically two big fat sidemounts joined together sitting vertically as opposed to horizontally like they are now.

    IB ?????

So you'd want something like ....

    this
[image]http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0QQDbAmATrIJuvmA!ctPRMoxG8WCdwxYdhWgg9wu1mMXl0i2QNXgBWiqJMRX8KFl1MNpH3Ae!5!XRW6QodNif3AAlNWwZxHXm11BM0vljZbw/Tomsfmickit.jpg[/image]It looks very agricultural but it even allows balancing in between two of the end tanks.
