Im going to try to get one of my z cars registered. Deep breath.........due to it being last registered in QLD and i live in NSW to get it registered here i need it to pass a blue slip. To pass the blue slip it needs an engineers certificate and an emissions test performed by the RTA. Now it runs E85 and and currently has not Cats so my question is does anyone have any info on weather the performance of Cats vary ? As i only want to buy them once i'm looking for details on Cats that not only look legal but actually do what they are supposed to. Now i suppose the simple way to go would be to grab some off a HSV or the like which are presumable legal. Anyone had any experience with this scenario ?
BF XR6t cats are euro5 rated which would be good for emissions but pretty restrictive. Magnaflow euro5 cats are 450 each iirc. I'd speak to Yavuz at Unigroup if i were you, the guy is a genius.
alright , ill call Yavuz, im getting the genius call from several searches and he is as close to me as anyone is ever likely to be. If he is going to be the 1 doing the emissions test it seems likely he would know what cats are going to work. Now i know i should be asking Yavuz but I would of thought that using 2 xr6T cats would be ok given that the 4L ford is only using 1?
Thanks but i found your exhaust removal method to be a bit....... savage and your prices a bit ........ high.
Depending on the inspector and his/her willingness to work...the test has a visual inspection component to it as well, so EGR & CATS will be eyeballed as well. That's a possible issue for you if the EGR has been removed, if it's just been bypassed it's ok. Depending on tune E85 can pass the actual emissions test with no cats.
Thanks Andy, Im not sure which way i will go on this car ,one of my major issues in that the engine requires a bonnet bulge and that is to me a major issue. Im a bit OCD and to me it looks like a mistake. i am trying to balance the extra room in the engine bay against the looks. As silly as this may sound to some people the whole project relies on me finding a visually acceptable solution to the bonnet, or coming to terms with the trade offs. I just don't want to have a car that everyone notices i'm not looking to be that guy.
