guys if the ac computer is good and you are not getting the AC to turn on, chances are its because the computer is seeing a fault and doing its job, bypassing the computer and forcing the compressor to start could cause a good compressor to fail (if you have no gas or oil in the system for example). I strongly recommend you get the system looked at before forcing components to run

    :agree:

    Hey Leafy,
Yep mate, I had the same issues as you and there was also talk of bypassing the AC ecu to manually turn on the compressor as it wasn't receiving a negative signal to turn it on.

I was told to search\buy another s2 control pod as the auto electrician was %99 sure it was the 'auto' switch being faulty. After swapping this unit out I still had the same issue and was then told to search/buy the main AC ecu  ..In the end after spending a small fortune (refunded in the end :D) it was a split line of the ambient sensor at the front of the car right next to the low pressure switch.

If your S1 pod is functioning besides turning on the compressor, I'm willing to bet that the ecu is finding a fault with one of the three sensors that it relies on to operate and 'climatise' your cabin.
If I were you, after checking all fuses and relays associated with the air-con, I would be checking these sensors.
From memory, there is the outside ambient sensor located right new the low pressure switch behind the front bumper, The sun loader sensor on the passenger side dash near the windscreen (interior) and the above cabin sensor that sits in the 'T' section of the roof where the map/courtesy lights are. Chances are, one of these sensors has a fault or has died. I would be checking each sensor and also trying to trace the wires back to the AC ecu to make sure no wire has been accidentally crimped or sliced.

I have a 89 Jspec with the S1 auto air-con and the ambient temp reading is never precise. its always 2-3 degrees out so if yours is reading the same then I'll assume that particular sensor is working and move on to the other two.
I wouldn't be surprised if your dash has been removed or ever repaired that the sun loader sensor hasn't been connected back up. I remember it was a bit of a pain to get that cable back onto that sensor.

Also buddy, I would be making the mechanic/sparky put back the system how he found it as bypassing the ac ecu is a bad idea as the engines ecu relies on those signals to change revs, aux fan etc

Once you've got a working compressor again and eliminated that bypass switch, I'll be willing to help out by meeting up with you and I'll bring my manuals with a multi-meter and we can go through the AC system and see just where along the line the signal stops.

Good thing Summer hasnt arrived yet aye mate ;)

    Thanks alot Stocki!

I am lucky that summer has struck...

Thanks for the offer as well! I do have plans to overhaul a few things with the car so looking to lump them all together and smash it out! Will be making a thread about it to see what my options are :)
