Is it OK to drill/tap the block to fit a 2nd Knock sensor into the "valley" just in front of the stock position?
There's a flat spit towards the front of the motor that you can easily drill/tap for a second sensor. I had a second sensor there when I was running power FC, probably have some pics at home
Thanks ... more work than I really wanted to do. But since the ECU has 2 x Knock Sensor inputs I should use them.
If you aren't pulling the engine down, just stick it on the front of the plenum somewhere, at least until next time you pull the motor down
The single knock sensor seems to be fine at detecting knock, its mostly the rear cylinders at risk anyway. Although having redundancy wouldn't hurt.
yeah ive done mine like black beast the middle most one goes to my ecu and the rear most one goes to a knocklight i have on my dash
I have decided to have both go to the ecu: 1: The ecu ecu can re-act a LOT faster than I can if knock occurs. I have a "Knock Light" now that picks up normal mechanical noise particularly in low load situations. 2: The ecu can tune individual cylinders so I figure the more coverage the better.
