Big Brake Kit question

Ok I am looking to upgrade my current brake set up on my Zed TT and need some advice. I'm currently running the 350Z track rotors up front with OEM Z32 calipers, standard hoses and street pads. The car is SWB TT manual running 19" wheels, Tein coilovers, adjustable suspensions etc.

There is a Wildwood kit I'm looking to get that includes Wildwood Forged Superlite 4 calipers, adapters, street/race pads and R32 GTR 324mm rotors. I will be upgrading the lines to SS ones also. The kit is a very good price considering how much other kits can cost.

Am I wasting my time upgrading to this or should I stay with what I've got and upgrade to SS lines and Hawk pads? The car is only driven on the street but is driven hard on the odd occasion. Anyone else using a similar Wilwood setup? Thoughts and photos welcome if any.

    Cheers in advance

Why dont u look at getting 370z akebono brake kit. U can get the adapters from czp or look on ebay.
    Front 356mm rear 350mm.
I have these fitted to my car and braking power is really good.
U can source them off a really new 37oz for good condition ones.
    Everything for under $1500.
Best bang for buck i think.

Luke300 - Did you upgrade rears as well or just fronts? Wondering what brake bias is like? I'm in New Zealand so sourcing the calipers can prove difficult and expensive. They want big dollars for them down here if I can find them at all.

    Stick with what you have.....

The 324mm rotor upgrade with oem calipers is one of the best 'bang for buck' brake upgrades you can do to the zed...... but do yourself a favour and throw a set of SS braided brake lines onto it ASAP. Guaranteed to make a noticeable difference

If you have $1500 'burning a hole in your pocket', I'm sure there's a long list of things you could spend it on that will result in a noticeable improvement for your zed.

I am a big fan of Willwood, if they are cheap, get them.

Think about upgrades in 2 ways. Will they help you stop faster? Well depends on your rubber.

How much increase in fade resistance will you gain? Good quality fluid will help here.

A lot of people bag out Wilwood but most of their stuff (except the real cheap lines) are quite good.

But for street use I wouldn't bother. Get some decent brake lines, do a full flush and put some decent fluid in (the Wilwood race fluid is good and comparatively cheap) decent pads and half decent rotors (don't go overboard with something like DBA4000 etc, not worth the extra cost for street use, and rubbish on the racetrack anyway, DBA Street Slotted are plenty good enough or whatever locally available slotted rotors are available in NZ).

Standard TT brakes with the above are more than capable for heavy street use or mild track use, the limitation of braking performance will be your tyres.

You've already upgraded the front so OK to stick with this, but the problem you may find is you now have too much front brake bias, making it too easy to lock the fronts when you really need to use them (ie an emergency).

Did rears aswell, its very balanced set up.
Iam using dba t3 4000 rotors and ebc red stuff pads.
    Bradded lines also.

Its 2nd biggest brake kit nissan has apart from r35 gtr so its good value for what u get.

I got fully loaded calipers with 370z oem rotors off a 2015 model for $1000 +$100 post from nsw.
The adapters from czp with exspress post for states for around $700 mark thats fromt and rear made from billet aluminum.

So $1800 all up cost me.
Shop around u can find cheaper.

  9. Been watching a few videos about the 370z and the tt 300zx. Average stopping distance for the 370z was 106ft from 60mph. tt 300zx averaged out at 109ft from 60mph... I would say some nice upgraded rotors with the tt calipers and stainless brake lines and it should be fine for the street. I plan on going that way myself. Tyres will make or break the package.

Yep, even stoptech say that it's tyres that stop the car. You can get a nicer feel with some of the upgrades though.

If you want to learn about brake upgrades, the StopTech website is a very good resource. Plenty of honest no bullshit information.

Ok I've digested all your advice and comments and is a good source if information. I think I will stay with what I've got for the time being and upgrade to Hawk pads and SS lines with a full flush and see how that goes. The 370z upgrade is a cool option (but hard to find here in NZ), Stoptech etc. but the cost to get them down here in NZ makes them pretty expensive with NZD and freight hence why the Wilwood kit look like a good cost effective upgrade. Brake bias is fine with what I've currently running so that shouldn't be an issue.

So with the Hawks - HPS the way to go? Do they produce a lot of brake dust?

I haven't run Hawk street pads but Hawk race pads can be pretty dirty.

For brake pads I'd go Project Mu.

I when with EVO 10 Calipers and Rotors (350mm) , adapter brackets are easy to find.

The other, more available option is to use the EVO 7,8,9 Calipers and 330mm Rotors.

Are there any brake bias issues with the Evo setups? Anyone running R33 GTR Brembo brakes up front?

ProckyZ89 - Any bias issues? Can I use the OEM brake hoses?

No and yes (I'm running them too) they shift the bias forward but the Z kinda needed that anyway, stops the tail kicking out so easily when you get on them hard. Feels great when coming into a corner hot.

For the brake lines since it's a hard line that goes into the caliper and the port moves a little I hooked up the line before bolting the caliper to the knuckle so you don't have fight tension on the line while trying to get the flare nut to line up.

Awesome, thanks that's what I was hoping for. The Zed always felt flat under braking. I had a similar issue when I upgraded to 350Z track rotors but nothing my hands couldn't bend. So the hard line can bolts up to the Brembos OK?
