    Afternoon all,

Noticed this started a couple of days ago, engine is warm at this stage.

    Clip below:

Any ideas on the issue, could the fan belt be loose?

    Cheers

I find it difficult to hear any "squeak". What I do hear is noise similar to worn-out Water Pump Bearing/s.
Belt squeal is a very loud and screeching sound(NOT apparent in your video clip).:zlove:

Yeah I am an active learner on cars, so was way out on that one.

Guess its time to buy a new water pump as I dont want that failing on me. Anyone have the part number handy?

    nvm found : B1010-22P27

Although $198.85 quoted by Nissan seems excessive

I did a ring around recently, best price I got was from Bursons for an NPW branded water pump (NPW make a lot of oem parts so quality should be adequate) can't remember the exact price but give them a shot.

It might pay to make sure that is actually the issue first though, not to discredit CHILI s idea, but trying to diagnose a noise from a YouTube video isn't easy. It could just as easily be the alternator, air con, power steering, or God forbid a timing belt pulley.

If it were my car I would disconnect the belts one by one and check the bearings on the accessories by hand (check for smooth, quiet operation and no axial movement), if necessary run the engine with each belt off, just for a moment to see if the noise goes away.

If it's none of the accessories get your timing belt and pulleys checked before shit gets real expensive.

If you are going to replace that, i would suggest doing a timing kit with idlers studs and pulleys, vtc springs and cam seals.

its not much further to go once you get the pump off. and a thermostat.

I had a squeak that I couldn't find and paid to get diagnosed.
One and a half hours later, it was the strut brace passenger side mount rubbing on a hard pipe.

I ended up paying for the water pump and timing belt replacement since the car was partially dismantled and had already bought the parts.

If you get a long screwdriver and put the blade end on the revolving component you want to check (near where the bearing location) and put your ear to the handle you should be able to identify which one it is making the noise, ie smooth noise vs a rough or rattley sound.
Be very careful of loose clothing, long hair and where you are putting the screwdriver around all those belt and pulleys.

Sounds like the water pump bearing but its hard to tell and so I'm not 100% sure and wouldn't like to steer you in the wrong direction to wasted $

First question is - how long since you replaced the water pump? That should be your immediate guide.

I don't recommend anything but an OEM water pump, the price quoted seems excessive though, shop around more as they can be gotten cheaper

:br: Advice from oldbob. use only OEM Nissan water pumps I have seen the out come of a non OEM water pump on a 300zx ,the results were impeller came adrift from the pump pulley shaft.[ Bang rattle rattle BANG !!:(]

    100km service

The water pump is part of the 100km service but it depends who has done it and if they did the whole service of just part of it. You really need the paper work to prove it, don't believe what people tell you in the the Z game without the proof.

You might try tightening the nuts that hold the pully on to the water pump. It may not help but at least you can tick it off the list.

Its confusing me a bit now as looked into it a bit more today and the 'squeek' has gone :W:

Thanks for the tips/advice, I am due a service next month so will ask the mechanic to look at that a bit closer for me. :zlove:

Hard to tell from the video but either a squeaky belt or a/c idler pulley bearing. Water pumps on these engines 9/10 is a failed seal and will start to leak.

Checking the belt is easy, spray a little bit of water onto the belt while it is running, if the squeak stops its a dry belt. If not, check the A/C idler pulley by removing the belt and spin by hand and listen for a dry running sound. The same could also be the case of a dry alternator bearing.
