Anyone converted or thought about converting to studs on the cam/valve covers? Would make alignment a piece of cake and could easily add rubber washer underneath the nut.

How often do you plan to remove the cam/valve covers to warrant using studs?

We tried using bolt on the inlet cam
Covers years ago on Brendan's zed while torquing down the cover edge actually snapped off !! There actually pretty weak once you get some torque on em!!

Definitely made like that for a reason !!!

If you place the same amount of torque as say the exhaust cam cover it should be fine... from memory they are a really low torque value which would make sense. Should only really break the edge if there was too much torque.

My thinking was to avoid having to use those annoying rubber bushings with the screws. And makes it easier to align, especially the ones using goop to seal.

Studs might even out the load could be worth a try !!

I would still use some rubber bushing/oring under to be similar to stock to cushion it so to speak. I believe its an M6 thread, so found some M6 exhaust manifold studs which were fairly well priced. Should be mint, although the question is, can I be bothered swapping mine out after having finished them..

Stop creating jobs and get that motor In !!! You've had 6 years to admire your cam covers ;) sitting in the shed

Man I personally wouldn't bother with the cushion. There are none on the exhaust side from stock and I've fit several aftermarket fastener sets without cushions and no leaks.

And you'd have to be one ham-fisted mofo to snap a cover from over torquing it lol

Personally I think it's s great idea. It would make removal of the exhaust side a hassle on a stock motor with EGR but assuming that's gone it sounds like winning to me.

True, I was mainly thinking of the rubber cushioning to keep it similar to stock. But then it has a rubber gasket on the intake side anyway. The only other thing I would like to do is something to stop the paint being rubbed off my nice covers. In some ways a rubber piece would ideally stop that from happening as much, but in the end it'd be hard to see and could cover it with a washer.

These look to be a goer http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400796819873

You try it out and let me know how it works ;)

Could always put a clear powder coat over the covers? Or yeah rubber or composite washers should be a dime a dozen at your local parts store

If your worried about paint just use a washer.

stud the lower and upper plenum. Makes life easy...

seen so many zeds with a loose/threaded upper plenum bolt.

Yer washer is easy, I never thought about the other plenum bolts. Might have to have a look at what I can replace with studs. However getting extra long studs might be the problem compared to nice short exhaust manifold type ones.
