Not sure on Victorian rules, but in NSW you have to be a member of a official car club.
We here are an Association not a club and therefore not recognised.
You trade your current plates in for club plates and are only allowed to use your car on the road on official club functions. shows, cruises ect...or to and from the mechanics.
Your not allowed to use the car as your "daily driver" on club plates.
I am not sure how the CTP part of the "Club Rego" would work.

If you check on the VicRoads website it will have more detail on what you can and cant do.

    Requirements...

I am part of the NDSOC committee (www.ndsoc.com.au). We are a Nissan / Datsun club of Victoria that does club reg.

To get club reg your car must be 25 years old or older (by month of manufacture).

Also, you will need to be a club member of NDSOC. There is an associated fee which you can find on the website and a membership application form. First year of membership is $90, then its $70 for every year after.

You must obtain a Vicroads Road worthy certificate. You then speak to our club reg official, who will provide you with the required documents to take to Vicroads. Your car will also be inspected and photographed for club records.

Once you have your club reg, you will be required to fill out a log book every time you drive the vehicle. You can only drive the vehicle a maximum of 90 days per year, if you opt for the more expensive option.

If you need more info, please PM me here or email me at secretary@ndsoc.com.au.

Note, there are also other clubs that do club reg if you feel that NDSOC is not appropriate for you. Each club will have their own requirements, but ALL will require a Vicroads Road worthy, as that is now law.

    Cheers

    move to Z related?

Also the "association" isn't a club (in the legal sense) so I dont think "membership" (which doesnt really exist) will help you get club plates or cams,

    I could be wrong.

There are some Datsun Z clubs that may be able to help and I'm sure will be happy to take your $$$ for membership.

Gmbrezzo the club plates are a little more relaxed here in vic and as such since they released the rules the amount of club permits issued have gone up heaps.
Much cheaper rego and you get 45 or 90 days a year that you can drive depending which forms of rego you pick.

Either way hit up NDSOC with your old Nissan/Datsun cars if you're in vic

I had one of my previous motorcycles on classic plates. It used to be that you had to be driving to or from something club related to actually have a valid "reason" for taking your vehicle out, fortunately that law was changed a while back. In some situations it's actually cheaper to own multiple vehicles all on classic registration and just alternate between them than it is to keep one daily on full rego... Also note that the 1st turns into the 11th with one additional digit... Just sayin'
