I have JDM front and rear bars. I live in NSW, I want to get a good fitting number plate, as far as I know if I get the yellow standards I'll have to bend the sides, or I can get an 'international' size for a one off fee and a monthly addition to registration.
I think the international size would fit perfectly, but has anyone had any experience with bending plates with the law?

The NSW US/Import plates are a perfect fit.
As a matter of interest it was reported on the radio the other day 81 infringements relating to number plates have been issued by Police recently.
About the only other option available in NSW would be the old black & white 5 figure plates, but you'd be lucky to get a set.

Or you can cut some small slits in the bar to feed the plate thru.

You could get away bending the edges plates, we get away with it in ACT. However cutting the plate will get you into trouble.

I just wish there was a way to get out of paying the fee. But it looks like i'll have to come up with some ideas for personalised plates.

Well, after years of paying an immorally high and morally questionable fee for a Personalized Number Plate(in NSW) CHILI has finally "bitten the dust" and has reverted to a set of unfashionable(and over-sized)Yellow & Black NSW Plates.
I finally got sick & tired of shelling-out $440 p.a. for my "CHILI" plates, when I realized that my expenditure on said plates has now exceeded the retail value of my beloved Z32TT.
Well Done NSW RTA(This has become a classic example of "Biting the hand that feeds you!":bash::W::br:

I would love a set of personalised plates too, but even for the simple off the shelf semi-personalised plates, RMS still want money for them.
Due to our ridiculous registration costs (Green slip and registration) it's stupid to spend money on plates in NSW.

i get the one off fee, but why do they charge a yearly one as well?
it's a pain when i just want something that fits neat.

Are you sure about the annual fee part?
If you want a specific combination of letters & numbers it's applicable, but if you accept the standard issue there is only a one off payment, no annual fee on the US/Import plates.

You can restyle existing plates, (I can't do this because I have no plates at the moment). I don't know if the import size is an option in that menu though. The person at the RTA said they were order in only.

OK, get the standard black & yellow plates & when you pick them up, order the US/Import style plates with whatever letter/number composition is on the plates.
Bend the rear plate to fit & keep the receipt for the ordered US/Import plates (because you have to pay for them before they'll make them) in the vehicle, it usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks for them to make the plates & deliver them to the registry.
You would have to be unlucky to get pinged in that timeframe & the receipt is evidence that the uncompliant plate/s are in the process of being rectified.

The information provided to me by my local RTA Office clearly states that the above option carries an annual $99 fee/Rental charge to retain usage of the said plate option(cheaper than the $440 annual fee for my old plates, but true "Highway Robbery" IMHO).:bash:
Channel 7 isn't the only entity running a "Cash Cow Competition"(but they are the only ones who do so at an acceptable price).:W: Get you 'Hooked' on a chosen Plate combination & then slowly bleed you to death(with slight changes this could be viewed as highly immoral/illegal.....).:eek::eek:
The great thing about 'Bashing yourself on the head with a Hammer' is that it feels sooo good when you finally stop!!!
P.S. My car still runs just as good without having made this annual donation to the RTA Purse.:br:

Literally just been through this myself, you pay a ~40 dollar charge for the standard black and yellow plate issue. I got that and just bent it anyway to fit it in the rear bar. I encountered and was tailed by cops multiple times but never pulled over. Now i got a 5 figure black and white plate and it fits in the rear bar, 220 issue fee and a 99 annual fee.

I won't say "I told you so"(but I did, didn't I?). This fits in exactly with the info I was given in Sydney several days ago.:mad:
This is the literal example of "Highway Robbery" IMHO.:bash::W:
What's next(an annual fee for maintenance & usage of the States roads)???:rolleyes2::rolleyes2:

In qld my plates had to be bent at the rear in order to fit.
Just ordered some personalized USA sized plates from PPQ for $420 once off fee. They have a 10% off in July sale if you sign up your email if any other QLD'ers are interested :D
Finally I will have plates that will fit properly lol

It's plain to see what the future holds as far as modified vehicles go.

Police issue than 1200 infringements for mobile phone use while driving - Operation Compliance 2

    Thursday, 16 July 2015 06:39:30 PM

A police operation targeting drivers for illegal phone use, number plate violations and vehicle standards has resulted in almost 1800 infringement notices.

NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command conducted Operation Compliance 2 yesterday (Wednesday 15 July 2015).

The state-wide blitz was initiated to focus on responsible driving behaviour and led to issuing 1256 infringements for mobile phone, 81 for non-compliant number plates and 640 for vehicle standards.

This is what they got in 1 day.
How much revenue do you think this brought in?

followed the link and a couple of points stood out.... (going to be a bit of a twit here I suppose)

Hold on I thought speed was the big bogy man hence all the speed camera's, followed closely by us hoons in our modified cars......

So I guess if these people were not using their cell phones they would all be alive..... Please note I am by no means trying to diminish the deaths of these people just questioning why the whole number gets lumped into the justification of a statewide blitz that most likely cost a fortune (but more than likely paid for itself with instant fines) and took cops away from getting drug suppliers and thieves and all sorts of other badguys. I also wonder how many were of these deaths were the result of speed or alcohol or phone use or any other cliche cause, then how many were people just not paying attention or worse being hit by someone no paying attention, staring into nothingness and the sort, I know the only 2 times I have been hit (my only 2 accidents) both were because the driver was not taking adequate care in their surroundings not speed not drugs not phone use nothing but being slack.
