Hi This may put the cat among the pigeons but as I have been looking at getting another ride I have noticed some reportedly very good TT' s around 10K and up and have seen the price of 350z starting around 10k averaging 14/15k for a 2003/6 model. Having had a 89 TT the less work of a 350 is appealing as a 12 year old frame against a 20/5 year old frame. It should be added the dynamic improvements of the 350 in safety and handling.

Thought this might make a good discussion to see various viewpoints?

    Depends on your needs......

If you want a DD that is fairly reliable, nice to drive and may require less routine maintenance....... buy the 350Z :)

If you want a weekend car that has the potential to be awesome to drive and are prepared to do some occasional work to ensure the fun continues..... buy the TT :D

If you want more than 2 seats the 350z wont work for you.

but imho, theres nothing wrong (and plenty of good things) with the 350z.

Its still a zed car after all......

Alot of people dont like its styling.................thats personal preference though.

    why isn't this in Z-related?

Oddly, I see many TT's at SUB $10K so the price comparison is a bit off imho. I guess if you're hoping to get the best of the lot, you may be looking at top dollar. But PAYING top dollar doesn't always guarantee you a good car (let it go Chris....let it go)

I think now the early 350Z's are so cheap, they make a very attractive weekend/track day weapon and for track work/tarmac ralley, carry more respect than the Z32.

Really depends on your own preference as Ross said, but also what you want the car for.

Oddly, I've recently found myself thinking that IF I were to ever get a Z32 again, I'd actually go looking for a clean, stock manual.....wait for it.....NA.

I've never had respect for the NA. But if all I want is a GREAT "Looking" car, that will be fun around the back hills roads, then what a great car to have. And sooooo cheap now.

But on that same token, I'd look at an NA Supra as well ;)

If track work was the intention, I'd say 350Z hands down.

    LOL....Neither will the Z32....2+2 or 2+1....

Well if 4 seats are a "requirement", you'd have to consider the 350Z 2+2 of course.

Nissan put the wrong badges on it. An idiot in the factory stuck a "Skyline G/V35" badge on it, but we all know it's just a 350Z with 2 extra seats.

    .....or a Supra ;) :p

I'll add this. In WA (from what I can see) there are no 350Z's at prices comparable to 300ZX TT.

And if there were, I assume you'd be comparing a POS thrashed and trashed 350Z to an "TOTES AMAZEBALLZ" 300ZX TT that is PERFECT in every single way.

    agreed!

A hail damaged or cosmetically challenged 350Z 2003 model would now make a very very tempting track day toy.

Strip that thing out and add a cage and bucket seats and harness and you're ready to rock.

GREAT handling cars out of the box.

or you can buy the same cheap 350z as a great car to do up as a project.

spend say 12k on a roughish one (which ive seen a few times in perth - maybe 5times?)

then chuck some fresh paint and bodywork on it.....end up with a decent car......

Thanks All for the honest opinions and balanced replies. The cheapest 350 2003 I have seen is $9900 The average price for a 2003 / 2005 with mid 100ks is up to 15K. There are some really nice 300s out there some have had blood sweat and countless hours put into them. Asking 20k as some do is realistically hard to achieve - there are many alternatives in this range. I am looking at a 2 seater. If its a 350 it will be supercharged and a body kit - that's about 20 plus k for 350 average kw. Now if that little worm inside of me can get rid of the fun I had in my slick top and the great camaraderie of the 300 club it may still happen (300zx) Anyway thanks I will keep checking in Dave

lots of fun 2 seaters to be had if 20K is your budget.

If you're a Z tragic then fair enough, but I'd say at least TRY some other cars also before returning to a car you've already had.

Life is short, and there are LOTS of cars out there.

Also if it doesn't have to be a 2 seater....... can't help but notice how many Z owners have moved on to BMW M3 now they've dropped in price, and all I've talked to swear "faster, lighter, and better handling".

And on the BMW front, the day I sat in my mates BMW Z3 (M badged with straight 6 engine I think?) I couldn't help but feel myself thinking "so this is what a sports car SHOULD feel like".

It was like night and day compared to my 300ZX and my 350Z.

    300z b/c...

you will be driving a car with a list of achievements and praise awards longer than anything else out there. A modern day classic, IMO.
Ok 20+yrs now and still being praised. That's why.

    My 2c worth.

Could be a M Roadster. Has the M3 engine and driveline in the Z3 body. Bit of a beast, and a handful. I was looking at the Z4 version before getting my CSL. Good choice if you have the $$.

I know it's a games forum but the discussions are still relevant.

What these guys have written is pretty much spot on I reckon.
But it's about whatever tickles your fancy at the end of the day.
But the wide body 240z = wow. That's really nice!

As for BM troubleyous I have no idea other than being told $$$ when something goes wrong.

350, 370, GTR35 will all come down in price eventually and plateau at some stage , they are cars. The Z32 has hit rock bottom I reckon. Because they are a modern day classic, and when parts start to run out soon, good examples, people will start asking $$$$$ myself included. People used to tip old fords, holdens, valients, and VW's. Now......$$$$$$
Also, I have noticed over the years people on this forum have come and gone and who ended up buying a lemon Z32 and have tainted experiences. It's sad actually because well kept ones are awesome. Trying to convince them otherwise is like asking to change religion.

I have to say though, Nissan has to be commanded for supplying parts for the Z32. It's amazing that parts can still be purchased 20+ yrs later!!!
    Not many manufacturers do that.

    only a few times?

the prices are definitely coming down.

Basically if you want something that is an easy drive and good everyday car, with the occasional track day thrown in, buy the 350z :)
If you want the feeling that only a special car can give you with seat of you pants driving, head turning appeal, beautiful lines and the great sound of the 3liter v6 then buy a well maintained and slightly modified TT 300zx :zlove:

I made the mistake of selling mine in an emotional state and have regretted it ever since!:bash: The 350 is a nice car to drive with good power, good handling and is reliable but doesn't give you the same feeling as the 300 :zlove:

Just my 2 cents worth
