hmmm...well I'm not all the way there with this rear Altia panel. Hoping someone might have some ideas still.

The EL illumination turns on when I turn the headlight switch to either the first or second position. I am using the OEM sub-harness which plugs into the brake light relay per OEM instructions. At this point I believe it is working correctly. However, the burnt out indicator light in the gauge cluster does come on while the EL panel is illuminated during this time.

When I start the car/turn the motor on, the EL panel will not illuminate. All other lighting works perfectly fine as it should. I also do not get the burnt out indicator light in the gauge cluster.

With the motor off but the headlight switch in the first or second position I get a reading of about 117-120 volts out of the inverter, which I believe is correct for powering the EL panel. As soon as the car motor is running the voltage out of the inverter drops to around 1.7 volts, which is likely not enough output to run the EL panel. Could I have the two wires to the inverter from the sub-harness flipped? Not even sure if this makes a difference.

    Currently:
From the sub harness - green with red stripe spliced into a red with black stripe going to the inverter.
From the sub harness - solid black spliced into a solid red going to the inverter.

Any ideas? Could my aftermarket inverter not be powerful enough to run the EL panel with the motor running?

I'm going to try switching my two wires leading to the inverter as suggested from someone via email. I'll report back later today.

The inverter is powered via the vehicles electrical system, therefore it is not a question of power available, as there would or should be more available voltage with the engine running compared to the engine stopped.
It sounds very much like a connection issue, as it appears you are losing voltage.
The EL strip should illuminate when any of the lights are operating.
Try looking for a GREEN wire with a RED tracer, this wire should power the taillights.

    Got it figured out.

It appears the sub harness that comes with the Altia Garnish is not correctly wired for my USDM Z, 96 model specifically... whether that makes a difference. I had to de-pin two of the wires on the sub harness and switch them with two others in order for the panel to operate correctly. Strange as it is, but JDM cars must have their tail lights pinned a little differently than USDM.

Zeke, is there any way you could repost (or re-host) the pics from page 1? There's a bunch of dead links there. :(

    John,

I'm not sure why you saw dead links. It appears on my end...they're all still showing up.

I've got a99/00 spec centre panel that's been sitting for over 2 years now, halfway done doing the Zedwizz LED reverse lights. I've had the Glo-Hut EL panel and converter for just as long, waiting to be installed as well.
I need to finish what I start. lol
