Does anyone have any suggestions on a workshop/mechanic in the Newcastle area who is familiar or specialises in Z32 TT cars where I can take mine to have a misfire diagnosed and repaired?
I'd be happy to drive down rob260, do I ring you and make an appointment or is some other arrangement more to your liking?
If you're going to own a zed....... you need to at least learn to diagnose the basics, otherwise you're going to be in a world of trouble. Combustion (or the lack of) is dependant on 3 things, Fuel, air and spark...... it's a process of elimination to find your culprit. Spend some time reading the tech section and do some searches and you'll find a plethora of posts/articles relating to your situation. You will pick up lots of knowledge about your zed and may save a lot of money by not paying someone else to find what may be as little as a bad sparkplug or a broken/faulty connector
You could try revolution racegear in Kotara. Years ago when I lived there I used to buy various bits for my car from there. The owner raced a TT that he used to have proudly parked out the front, so if he still does mechanical work he would be a good place to go. The shop is down an alley behind bunnings/ dick smith off Northcott drive.
Thank you Gazza, I looked it up the shop is still there so I will ring them and see, good contact to have in the event I need some bits in any event. I'm in the process of organising for rob260 to take a look at it, so will follow that path first.
Just a bit of an update as I've just finished looking at this car. The car has no error codes, TPS appears within spec, the coolant temp sensor appears to be functioning. Cylinders 2 & 6 are not firing (verified with power balance test). I have checked the following on both cylinders Coilpack power & earth (verified with DMM) Coilpack pulse signal (verified with ABW logic probe) Injector power (as above) Injector pulse signal (as above) On cylinder 2 I checked the following Compression is 125psi (dry); cylinder 1 by comparison is 135psi Swapped coilpacks with cylinder 4 -no change Removed coilpack and spark plug and visually checked for spark -spark is present Fit a new set of spark plugs (the old one appeared fouled) -no change I didn't look into cylinder 6 in any detail as it was clear by that stage that #2 wasn't going to be solved by any means (ie plenum pull) that weren't also going to solve #6. Considering... *Spark seems good *The plug on cylinder 2 is fouled *The owner has previously experienced the cat over heating light coming on ...I have suggested a plenum pull and overhaul the injectors. The owner is reluctant to spend the money on a plenum pull without first ruling out other possibilities, so I'm posting the results from today in case anybody else has ideas to offer. It's worth noting that the car is fitted with a thermo fan that doesn't work (never switches on), and the only cooling is being provided by the auxilliary fan when it switches on at 105*. Yes I've expressed the opinion that this is very bad, and of greater concern than the misfire! Thanks for reading!
