Hey everyone I had a horrible grinding noise from the front end when i turn my aircon on and then disappears when i turned it off. i took the belt of and never had the problem again and never had aircon again either (obviously) the aircon still worked when it made this noise. anyways its like 36 degrees here on the sunny coast QLD and i cant take the heat with out my cold air any longer. can someone confirm if the grinding noise is the sound of a dying ac pump? is it cheaper to rebuild this unit i have? buy a new one? ($630 i don't think so ) or does any one have a good working unit i can buy? thanks guys and happy new year
I had a similar problem with my first zed, get upside down in the passenger foot well and look up. There are quite a few screws and bolts up under there which can rattle around if they work loose.
Because the pulley is moving all the time, and you've suggested that noise is only heard when the Aircon compressor engages. This suggests that the compressor bearings are the most likely culprit.
That sounds like a compressor that's dying. Mine in the last car was like that. It blew cold air but the grinding sound the compressor made was so embarrassing , i'd wouldn't use it in city driving because of the looks people would give me. Compressor lasted maybe 6 months before it gave up completely.
Well it lasted 20 years http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313516 or you could ask Lloyd, (is he local to you?) check his thread about aircon compressor.
Not sure which one Lloyd is . I'm guessing the one who lives in Queensland but doesn't say. No where in the thread did it resolve his problem so im still left guessing
sounds as if the a/c pump is on its way out. mine was prattly seized so ive removed the whole system.
