Brains trust. I need your help.

I have had HID's for about 2 years now and they have suddenly started blowing the 15amp fuse on the LH side.
The fog light on the drivers side is dimmer than on the passenger.

Now when i got the car back from the panel beater when I turned the lights on, the HID's came on (the drivers side only), but both High Beams came on but very dull.

I had a look to see if i could find the ground or the connector/ relay for the lights but I have no idea how to test them.

Getting really frustrated at this point so I am curious.

    1) how do I find a bad ground?
    2) How would i be able to locate a short in the bay?

I have a multimeter but its SH!t. it tried to zap me the last time i used it.

Just wondering if there is anything simple I can try so that I can at least locate the region of the problem before tossing my toys out of the cot and taking it to an auto elec.

    thanks

You havent said what work was carried out at panel beaters or what damage took you to one of these places. Sounds like you have more than one issue, dim lights usually point towards bad earth, blowing fuses usually means you have the live wire being earthed or grounded.
Lights relay is front left hand/passenger side of engine bay. Earth wires are "nearly' always black.
Get wiring diagram from Factory Service Manual, they are pretty simple to follow.

    Hope this helps

This seems to be happening an awful lot recently. I had the same symptoms, unbolt your fuse box, and underneath you'll find a wire has earthed out. Tape it up and you'll be good to go!

Hey thanks for the comments guys.

Car got hit in the rear and I had to replace the beaver and all the lights, hatch etc.

Few little hiccups along the way now. So its going back the the smash repairer to get some things sorted.

Funny you should mention the wire under the fuse box. I pulled the fuse box off on the weekend but it was a real mess under there.

I almost need to have a look a stock one to see what it should look like as my car has got alarms, fan controllers, other stuff that has been wired in all over the place.

Headlight earth wires are pink with black strip on side, one of them has silver dots added also.
There is 2 headlight relays in fusebox. Relays are with 4 "legs'' 2 are positive and 2 are earth's.
1 earth is coming into relay and other starts from relay and goes to headlight.
Both relays are built up like this.
Positive is coming from battery and is sliced into 2 x 15 amp fuses, from there it goes to both headlight relay.

Get a multimeter what has this ''piip'' signal function, this way you can find out at what end wire is broken.
