Thats what I was getting at with my first post, the 240-280(pre s130) are gorgeous cars but they are very typical of their era for ride comfort and extras, The s130 and the z31 were a lot more comfy but lost a bit in the sheer driving experience...... although not as much as one may think. The Z32 for me has the complete package looks (not as good as the original, but very nice still) great performance and all the gadgets one can ask for. The newer ones are too much like the new skylines for me..... infact I truely believe that the R35 GTR skyline is the true successor Of the Z lineage. and not really a skyline at all.

    Nice assignment :D

I guess the hard part is finding people that have owned multiple zeds "as new" (or near to it).

Because if, for example, I game you my comparison between my Z32 and my Z33, it's not really fair.

The Z32 was 20 years old and had seen better days.
The Z33 was only 2 years old.

I think very few people would be able to offer a fair comparison "new for new" but they must be some.

A few extra things to note, there were fairladies before the Z label going back to the early 60s and from these early models up the 240Z their place in the market was to ape European/British aesthetics without the price tag, compare them to the Triumph TR7, MGB or Jag E-Type. All about that light weight handling with a little poke, similar to an Elise or GT86. These early models will be the ones where you talk about attachment, I'm still more attached to my 120Y than to my Z32 because you're so involved when driving it.

The 280zx was the first Z that they ran through a wind tunnel, that with the growing interior gives you a milestone for turning towards engineering and function from the earlier emotion based designs.

Hi there. I use to own a 1974 260z 2 seater Dark green and a 1976 260z 2+2 gold in colour with a recon 280zx fuel injected motor done by alan stean in underwood. Loved them both. Should never of sold them. The first day I picked up the 2 seater I drove through brisbane city on a friday night and I had people ask if they could take pics of it, if it was a ferrari, corvett lol and multiple remarks on it. I even got pulled over by the police just so he could look at it. He pulled me over and said your not in trouble, I just want to look at your car haha. So I hoped out and let him sit in it and he loved it. He said if I let him drive my 260z I can drive his patrol car haha. They drive very nice for an old car and they actually handled pretty well. I did a few sprited drives up nebo with my import buddys and the old zeds out handled them in the corners. Az always on the old carbies use to get heat soak very bad on hot days. But the 76 4 seater 260z I never had a problem with. It actually blew away the ba falcon when they first came out. So my emotional attachment started when I was 6yrs old. My mum owned 3 260z's over the time and my farther owned a few aswell. And my auntys and uncles. Since then I fell in love with them. When I was in high school my dad bought a mint red z32 300zx 2 seater. I remember him taking me for a strap and came home and 5 mins later a few young guys walked up and fell in love with it and had to take pics of it. Thats zed love haha. The love for zeds continued when I did work experience in high school for 2 days a week with alan stean who had a shop in underwood called zed car racing. So every day I went there id drool all over the race spec zeds. He Had a few 240z and 260z always in the shop. And one that I always rememberd was this mint 260z with a 400hp vg30dett in it. Now my emotional attachment to my z32 now is because I just love zeds. Every model I love. The z32 just has that supercar look to it. Sexy sleek and just great. Iv always wanted a nice clean z32 and finally have one. Everyone compliments me on it every day. Work mates, random drivers on the road and older people too. I here alot of people say the z32 is hard to work on ect but people seam to forget it was nissans supercar back in the day. Ferraris are hard to work on. Lamborghinis are hard to work on and porsche and bmw's. I use to work for audi n lamborghini years ago and to do a clutch on a diablo you have to remove the whole engine and all that under airo stuff. 76hrs later you have a clutch. And if you love a car that much you will do what you need to do to fix it. Hope this helps haha.

Awesome write up, cheers mate. You've obviously been in the zed game for a while then! Thats exactly what I'm looking for.

How did the 260z's compare to other cars of that era? In terms of just driving experience/handling and all that?

  7. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Some minor details...

The 280Z/ZX and (Z31) 300Z/ZX came in 2 trims. The 280Z and Z31 300Z were base models while the 280ZX and Z31 300ZX were 'luxury' models with many extra features, equivalent to what you see in the Z32 300ZX (and included 2-tone paint finishes).

As to the emotional side of things, I had always admired and coveted sporting (sporty) cars, including Falcon GT's, Mini Coopers, Z-cars and so on. At age 55 the price of (relatively) new Z-cars (specifically, a red Aus-spec 300ZX) and my finances coincided, and I thought I better get one while I was still able to get in- and out of the damn thing. Have not regretted the decision!

    Good job mate.

Just had a read through... Well presented and well written Will.

And, I loved your personal response remarks.. brought back memories of how I felt when I saw one of the newly released Z32's back in 89. (but I was in my late 20's then).

Good luck with your marks mate.

    cheers

    Chris

Thanks Chris, hopefully my lecturer will think the same

Big thanks to Tim (lidz) for providing me with all the information regarding the design process of the 300zx. Some pretty crazy ideas and modelling were put into it.

And also the rest of the forum for your input, thanks guys!

Will .... in "Personal Response" you omitted a crucial "not" .....

"... The engine was running well either ... " ...

    Well presented work.

83/100. Just shy of a high distinction. Still pretty good I reckon though.

    Well done mate..

Did you get comments etc on what more you could have done.. I thought this was a really well prepared presentation.. but I know shit about your subject of course. :D.

    Regardless, well done.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Yeah basically the main thing my lecturer pulled me up on was that I didn't really further explore the issues that were raised, I really just presented information that could have been easily found. I got full marks on presentation and personal response though, which was good :D
