Hey guys, really sorry I missed this cruise. Looks like it was a great day of Z cruising. I spent my Sunday stuck in a hospital ward and had micro surgery on my thumb which I sliced open on Saturday working on the Z. Not sure If I can make the goldfields cruise as its a 6 week recovery period but Ill see how I go.
Thanks cam, yeah still a little sore. Turns out I sliced my tendon in my thumb and even sliced into the joint a little. They needed to stitch the tendon back together and then used 10 stitches to close the wound up. Photo of the wound. After surgery Been to hand therapy today and now have a plastic thumb splint. Need to go back next week for more treatment and therapy. Not allowed to drive atm either and its not easy adjusting to using my left hand to do everything.
Well you see, I was trying to replace my drivers side window motor in my drivers door on Saturday and I had Mark (marsbar) over to watch me remove it and learn how to take the door card off. Anyways I had removed 2 of the 3 Philips head screws holding the motor to the internal window bracket inside the door. But the last screw which was the upper onr, I could seem get off because the intrusion bar was in the way of my socket extension I was using. Anyways after an hour or so of trying to use a stubby screw driver and even undoing the rest of the window bracketing to create more room to undo this bastard screw I couldn't get it off and that's when I had this crazy idea of what if I try and rotate the motor instead. So I grabbed the motor with one hand and then grabbed the window bracketing with my other hand. My thumb was on the inside opening of the bracket. I then proceed to pulled the motor inwards thinking it wouldn't move. All of a sudden the motor twitsed inward forcing my thumb up into the window bracket slicing clean through my fabric glove and into my thumb. Straight away I knew I had cut into my thumb deep and I thought I had cut so deep I had chipped my small piece of bone from my thumb. Luckily Mark was able to help me dislodge the motor so I could free my thumb and we rushed into the bathroom and rinsed the wound. It was gushing out blood and so I quickly rang my wife who told me to wrap the wound up with a towel which I did and I put as much pressure on it as I could. Mark rang 000 and had a ambulance deployed. After looking at the wound they bandaged it up the wound and suggested I go to hospital to get xrays. I chose to get my wife to pick me up as I could walk. Went into emergency hospital Saturday afternoon at around 4 pm and was seen by a plastic surgeon who as soon as he saw the wound said yup, you've done your tendon. Need surgery asap. Got admitted to a ward Saturday night around 7:30 that night and spent all night and most of Sunday waiting to go into surgery. When I finally did go into surgery, I had a local anesthetic in my hand and they did the surgery with me totally wake but I didn't feel anything. Feel very stupid and though it was just a freak accident I still felt quite traumatised trying to go to sleep Sunday night. All cause of one freaking screw.
Mark told that story on Saturday and it was horrid and I wish I never knew. Between this and what SIM300 did to his thumb/finger, I'm never putting my hands anywhere ever again. Wishing you a speedy recovery Adam
Thanks mate, Hopefully I will be able to come to the goldfields cruise. But you think that's bad almost stabbed my eye with a screw driver trying to get a clip off the bottom of the suspension shock. I was extremely lucky that day it didn't and you'll find out about that once I post my up my build thread when I finish writing it all up.
