Back on the road, new plates with a twist... I joined a local car club last year. Became a regular member and yesterday had the club inspector check over the zed. He's given me the all clear and today it's officially on a 90 day unlimited use club plates. $136 for the permit and now that the car is only driven 90 days of the year, $111 full comp insurance for the year with RACV. Under the current VIC scheme as long as the car is over 25 years old it qualifies as a classic. For imports they don't go buy manufacturing month, only year so my car qualified starting Jan 1st Possibly the first Z32 on club plates, I've been planning this since 2012. <3 1989 series 1 zeds. <3 2014.
Cheers! Will enjoy as is, save me cash. 1st trip today on the logbook. Took her around Melbourne and racked up 150kms on the clock, very happy.
Fantastic news for you, enjoy showing off those new plates! Up here in QLD, have to wait until car is 30 years old to quality under Concessional Club Registration.
Congrats Mike I'm sure your really happy & enjoying driving the zed around. The zed looks really good. Abraham
Thanks, I am over the moon especially since the car passed with all mods in place. No way I was going to raise it and quieten the exhaust for regular rego. Col & Tim, make sure to check with vicroads when your z officially becomes 25. Aussie zeds have a build date on file and they go by that. Call them with your VIN and they can tell you which month. Imports they don't have the build dates on file so it goes by calendar year. Also the guy behind the counter can be a real dick if he wants to. I rang the head office and they told me on two occasions Jan 1st it qualifies so I can do it Jan 2nd or later. Went to Burwood vicroads and the guy refused to give me plates saying I have to wait until Feb. Gave him the flick, went to Oakleigh and they did it on the spot. Vicroads Burwood :W:
Nice! Which car club, as mine is an 89' and once all my mods are done I'd like to go down the same path. Also hear you have to attend a number of club events. More info would be great.
Which club Mike?? The NDSOC also does club plates. Since they are a Nissan / Datsun club, I was wondering which club you ended up going with?
I'm with Classic Skylines Australia. They're based in Carrum and the meeting location is only 15 mins from my place. Yeah it's a Skyline club but at least I drive a Nissan. Requirements are to attend meetings of course and to be a paid member of the club. I joined because a mate is a member and he recommended me. Other clubs all have varying requirements but all you need to do is select a vicroads recognised club to your liking. SAU can do it too and I think sandeep plans to go with them next year. Make sure you actually like the club and it's not too far from you. If you don't like going to meetings or don't like the people there, don't bother because they'll likely void your membership once they realise you are using the club for the plates. Read this thread too: http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=28922 The vic scheme is a god send. It's a privilege, not a right so don't abuse the system.
Yep all good I'm friends with the CSA president. They're a good club and many of their members are also part of NDSOC, As such, we do many joint events. And yes, the club stipulations are the same. You need to attend a minimum number of club events to stay on the club rego, otherwise your rego will be cancelled and Vicroads notified.
It's been my plan ever since my zed came off the road, awesome work. Looks great man! Gotta wait till 2022 for me though
Haven't read much so excuse me if it's been answered.... How can they tell if you've driven it more than 90 days throughout the year?
Log book... Everytime you drive the car, you are required to fill out a log book. If the police pull you over, and you havent filled out the logbook for that day, big fine and bye bye rego. So its an honesty system. Yes, you could get away with doing dodgy's, but also come away much worse if caught by the police.
log book. hey mikey how harsh are they on mods etc ? I considered putting mine on club plates too, is it anything like a normal rwc ?
You get to enjoy the same lax rules 60s and 70s cars because technically it's now a classic. As long as all the lights work, doesn't blow smoke, body is solid (no rust) and good tyres it'll pass. Just an example... I have the fixed back front seats you sold me & kept rear seats in. People have to get into the back through the boot now but no worries.
Mods... If the inspector of the club deems your car "too modified" he will send you away to get an engineers certificate and RWC. But that would be extreme cases. But things like roll bars etc etc can cause you to have to go do exactly that... But if its just the usual "mods", then as long as the car is deemed safe, it will be fine.
