Hi there, Does anyone know the cheapest best place in SA to go for manual gearbox rebuild? Going to be converting my 300zx 4 seater from auto to manual both were TT. I need a rebuild on the manual gearbox 4th gear wouldnt go in without crunching. Id prefer someone with pretty good zed knowledge. Ive removed everything i need out of the manual car but its a 2 seater so not sure how my tailshafts are going to measure up has any one ever done this manual conversion from a 2 seater into a 4 seater? I have the tailshafts from both.
talk to richard from eleventen engineering regarding rebuild. i think tailshafts are different lengths, someone else can confirm.
Tail shafts are different in length, so your 2 seater tail shaft will be too short for the 4 seater. Either get a one piece one made up or find a stock 4 seater manual TT shaft. As for the gearbox rebuild, it's probably cheaper and definitely much more worth while for you to get a brand new 2k spec gearbox from America. Better synchros and it's brand new for around 2k delivered.
Regarding the drive shaft. If my memory serves me correctly, the front half of the 2 seater can be put together with the rear half of the 4 seater to make what you require. On all variants it's the rear half that determines the different attributes between shafts for each. Front sections are the same length, but have different spline couplers to go into the boxes. Rebuild wise. Have a chat with Barry from Adelaide z cars and see who he recommends. Where in Adelaide are you based? I'm up gawler way, so if you need a hand or what have you, swing me a pm. Thanks for repying im hoping that its only the back half thats different guess thats later me's problem. Ill have to check when it goes back together and ill look up barry from adelaide z cars im hoping to get the gearbox done for around a grand give or take. Im tryin to keep costs down as these cars arent cheap to own and I just appreciate it for what it is aslong as it looks reasonably nice and is mechanically sound ill be a happy chappy Live in elizabeth south which is close ill inbox you what I have
