Son came home with a defect seat belt doesn't retract and frayed seat loose height aftermarket exhaust fitted First 3 are easy to tackle although not sure whether coilovers will be looked at Can I pass with the aftermarket exhaust (by retricting it and making it quieter or do I need to go back to stock ? .
Yup, can make it quieter and pass. As long as the db level is below a certain point. Chicken wire works a treat or making some steel cat back gaskets with a 1" hole through them will quieten her right down ;-)
That's no good, by seat being loose do you mean the back support how the can have that bit of play? Did he get hit with any demerit points?
Actually looking at it its the back support . passenger is similar but not quite as much Cant fix that ? Will say seat bolt was loose luckily no points
The fact that it's an after market exhaust shouldn't be a defect just the sound level. Check out this link http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi6.pdf and note this bit
problem is the police have the power to defect you because they see an 18 year old in a good looking sports car and automatically labelled as a hoon. Plus the orificer didn't believe it was my car and giving him a hard time saying that he saw him driving it the last couple of days :W: Exhaust maybe not passable but it isn't loud as it has UAS x muffler and magnaflow mufflers.. .
Yeah that's the real issue. I copped similar crap when I was a young guy with a 260Z. My current exhaust (straight through 3") is annoyingly loud even for me. Its been like that since I bought the car two years ago. I know from my own testing its a bit over the limit and I've lived in fear of a defect since I've owned it. Yet I've driven past many police (beside the road, in cars, also filling up at service stations) and none have shown the slightest interest in my car. Maybe being 46 helps? In any case I'm getting a new system put in (still 3") but with more resonators, hopefully quieter for my own sanity. Thanks to this site I know what to do if I ever am pinged though (chicken wire solution).
Still got the wiper delete plug Rob? I'd like to know the diameter of the thing. I'm thinking about deleting mine. Alternatively I'll be happy to buy it off ya.
i had exactly the same problem mine was a fair bit less good looking as your son buy yes i was on my red ps and used to get pulled over flat out but normally they were all pretty nice i even got pulled over on my ls going to my driving test like seriously cops need to leave people with nice cars alone and target filthy commies and falcooons
stuck steel wool up ours and self tapped it in passed the test then pulled it out, then kept the Db report in glove box for any future pull overs
little update car is at 4 wheel drive height now lowest point is about 130mm put a stock air box in and 2 restrictor plates with around 20mm hole in each . its still very deep and throatty and probably still just over the limit . I think instead of adding steel wool ,I'm going to put some stock mufflers on and leave the restrictor plates in as well . Any one in Sydney have a 2+2 diff back stock exhaust? happy to buy it as it will come in handy for future defects
Exactly - its not the red car - as mine is in the same boat - probably worse - I run straight through to magnaflows and have an F40 etc Its the fact that the cop saw a young driver which automatically means HOON in the eyes of that particular officer! It helps if you can stick an ambo / firey car badge on the back etc - they tend to leave their own alone.
