I tried starting my car after being overseas for 2 months for the first time. I had to jump start it with a friends car. When I tried revving it the rev would go all the way to the top until and stay there until i turned off the ignition.

I then tried turning it on again. And even with my foot of the pedal it still revved all the way to max until i turned off the ignition. I noticed my pedal has no stiffness and also when I popped the bonnet and checked the accelerator cable there was no tension.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how I fix it.

    Regards

    Cruise control cable maybe?

Even tho your throttle cable has slack, the throttle body linkage it attaches to, is it stuck up?

Remove the center cover and disconnect the cable and see if the throttle linkage turns freely and snaps closed by itself. Also pull on the cable while someone pushes on the pedal it should move smoothly in and out..

My money is on the 'breather tube' to the valve cover probably popping out(as they sometimes do)and jamming the throttle open(which is why the cable seems slack).
This has been covered on here numerous times(some with pics).

Check both breather tubes are pushed in firmly.:br:
