Hey guys, the rear RHD quarter window rubber is shot. It is disintegrating before my eyes, LOL. A chunk is now missing. The rubber is so brittle that as soon as you touch it, it just almost crumbles and falls to pieces. I searched Coz's website and all I could find was the OEM rubber together with the glass. I want to purchase new instead of second hand so that I don't do this again any time soon. Don't Karuma do the rubber for our cars without having to purchase the glass? Anyone know who supplies this? Also how hard is it to R&R this rubber? I will be keeping the glass because it is tinted. Any ideas? Peter
interested in this as well, mine are pretty bad and is a bit disappointing thinking of a freshly painted cars with these rubbers being so bad.
Dont think u can buy replacement rubbers for the rear 1/4 windows bevause they are glued to the glass from the factory. Replacement windows cost i think between $250 - $400ish brand new from nissan. Then u need to cut them off the car and reglue the new windows back to the car.
Yep, kurama only does window mouldings. I'm in this situation too with nice new rubbers and mouldings all over but crap quarter window rubbers. One day when I'm richer
If I recall correctly... In the past, aftermarket rubbers were available and would just fit to existing window. No need to purchase the whole thing. Cant find this now. Oh well, off to NISSAN or Coz for the rear quarter but the TINT. It's from JAPAN. LOL... Also, how hard is it to get this window out. Anyone done it here to shed some light??? At least level of difficulty. Peter
Its not an easy job thats for sure. I had obrien do mine and i watched the guy cut them out and it didnt look like a fun job. He actually shattered one of the windows during remove cuz he didnt cut enough sealant off before trying to remove the glass. The other thing to remember is you need to reseal the new glass before putting it on the car which was easy for the obrien glass remover guy to do cuz he had the proper tools. If u want piece of mind the window would be all sealed up and wont leak id get a professional to do the job for you then try and save a few guys doing it yourself. I think it cost me around $100-$200ish to heve obrien remove and install the new 1/4 windows but was very happy with the service.
I've been told that the only quarter windows available are "bronze tinted". Can this bronze tint be removed or is it the glass colour?
The glass has been ordered from COZ. WOW... didn't realise they were sealed in place though. Will definitely get O'Brian to come over and fit. Again, there are some things worth paying money for professional help and this is one of them!!! Tint wise, I had a look at Courtesy Nissan and there were a few options. I asked Coz for BLACK. The drivers and passenger side windows have an inbuilt Brown tint as standard. But on a charcoal Z the BLACK would be better IMO. Just one last question.... Internal trim wise, what has to be removed? Perhaps I can do this part myself to avoid damage to interior. Thank you for the replies guys, much appreciate it!!!!!! Peter
Heh, pretty much everything has to be removed to get at them. I was told by courtesyparts that they no longer carried "black" tint just 2 months ago.
Oh DEAR.... Looks like the Z will be in pieces for a few weeks after the NSW August cruise. Might as well get the other side done as well while I am at it. P I T A. I don't like seeing my Z in pieces. Especially when I am busting to drive it on weekends. So no BLACK? I will have to take whatever is available I guess. It appears that anyone who persists with maintaining a Z32 with new parts will end up turning it into a 2000 spec slowly. Hehe. Thank you all for your replies. Peter
The uv ut glass was $800 for just the LH side. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2645958/1989-nissan-300zx/page-171
