    Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic that knows their way around a Z in the western Sydney area and won't rip me off? Got an '88 Z31 and the couple mechanics I've talked to know sweet FA about them.

    Cheers.

Is there anything in particular that you wanted done or find out about?

Cheers Rob, I went and saw him straight away haha! He's gonna be busy for the next couple of weeks and I was hoping to get some stuff done before then... :(

I have a few maintenance/repair items to be done, 100k service, some bushes, steering boots and a few other things (car needs a blue slip). And then I basically just wanted to talk to a reputable/trustworthy/knowledgable mechanic about basic mods and tuning, mostly for homework for mods to be done in the next few months.

So yeah, any others people can recommend?

No probs, yeah Andrew is very good and honest and reasonably priced. So he tends to book out pretty quick...

Could try MRC http://www.mrcdyno.com.au/ who are over the road from Andrew and UAS http://nismo.com.au/ who are just around the corner

I ended up going to John at Unique Auto Sports in Seven Hills - seems like a top bloke! I only just dropped the car in this morning and I already can't wait to get her back >_<

The car has a few problems, being an '88 Z31 that wasn't properly maintained by previous owners, but she'll be right as rain by mid next week! (assuming all goes to plan haha!)

As a follow up to this, just wanted to say that I can highly recommend Unique Autosports. I got my Z31 back and she's purring like a kitten.... A very angry kitten....

John and Dave are very knowledgeable and helpful. Now that I have my repairs/maintenance done, my next visit (after I save the coins back up haha) will be for a few more ponies!

Saw your car at UAS. I recommend an intercooler as the first performance mod!

Oh sweet, yeah I'm only running 8psi at the moment so I should be fine for a while. I want a neat intercooler setup eventually, not a dodgy looking one, and for that I need some coin which I just dropped haha, so I have to wait a while!

Come to think of it, I'll be waiting a fair while indeed, as next on my list is new suspension all 'round, as 25 year old suspension isn't exactly fun to drive on when you hit the twisties! I also want some new wheels and a few other bits and bobs, so yeah, intercooler is on the list just not at the top! :D

An inter cooler setup will be a pain in the arse on a Z31, as a fellow Z31 owner I can vouch for this. Maybe a water injection setup would be a better cost effective method for you. You need to plug up the over boost pop off valve on the plenum and you can run 10 psi if you run ron98. Being an '88 you have a smaller turbo than the earlier models I'm not sure how much boost you can run before the turbo runs out of efficiency.

Yeah man I know they're a pain, hence my delay haha.

I do eventually want to install one and would rather go down that path than the water injection method. I've seen a pretty sweet install on a Z31 where they've got a modified (or completely custom) intake manifold where the throttle body sits on the left rather than the right, making the flow of the piping a lot easier as it doesn't have to cross back over the engine bay. The Spearco-type system is also a good option, however, I don't like the aesthetics of the setup (pretty stupid reason not to do it I know haha).

As for boost, I already run 98RON but I'm still going to stick to 8psi just for longevity and safety of the engine. On an almost stock Z31 I'm sure 2psi won't make that much of a difference anyway :p

    My car, although an '88, has a T3 model turbo, like the series 1 & 2 Z31's. :)
