Bunny Hopping while driving?

    Hey guys,

Just drove the TT zed to training this arvo, and drove fine as usual. 4 hours later, as I was leaving the car sounded REALLY sluggy. I'd been noticing it a little bit the last few mornings, but just put it down to being cold. Usually goes away and drives fine after 5km or so.

Anyway; As I was leaving today in 1st gear, as I got close to 20km/h the car started bunny hopping. It would not go past that speed as much as I tried. I changed into second at around 10km/h and it went to 20km/h fine, but then once the car was getting close to 50km/h in 3rd, the car started bunny hopping and would not go any faster then that unless I changed up a gear. Same with all the gears.. The car literally maxes out at 80km in 5th gear and will not go any faster, just bunny hop.

ANy ideas what is going on? Kinda worried.

    Limp mode?

    Will it rev past 2,000RPM?

Check the ECU for error codes.

Clean your AFM connector, often AFM causes limp mode.

Yah. 2500rpm is the normal rev limit with AFM problems. I'd be looking there first.

The car will not rev past 2500 rpm either in gear or in neutral.

    Error code: 55

Check the connector on the AFM. Might need a clean and tighten.

So just a follow up, it got too dark too quickly last night to be able to check the AFM. I started the car up this morning, and it the revs were still going up and down until the car warmed up, however drove fine today.

Still looking like a possible AFM issue? Would an AFM issue also stop the car being able to kick in turbos at certain times?

    Hard to make boost

If your ECU is limiting you to 2,500RPM

Pop the nose panel off and give the AFM connector a quick clean. (it's a 10 minute job)

You say your idle is hunting as well... while your doing the AFM give your Coolant Temp Sensor connector a quick clean too. :zlove:

Sorry about the late reply guys. I just pulled the AFM out and gave it a clean. If anything the idle is worse now, where it's sits at 600 rpm and then dies.

Going for a drive however, it seemed to drive fine. Boosted well but with that said it did just start hopping this morning half way to work.

As soon as it goes to idle it just drops very quickly and either sits there at around 600 rpm or stalls.

I did notice when I went to clean my AFM, the mesh looks like the following. Im not sure if I've done it by pulling it out or if it was already like that. Is that going to be a problem?

Chrispy meant give the AFM *connector* a clean.. The plug + socket..

Yes, exactly! I wouldn't reccomend cleaning the actual sensor.

    He didn't, did he?

As he's removed the AFM I'm a tad concerned he might have.

You can buy air flow meter cleaning fluid in spray cans from Repco etc - it's fine to use & wont cause any drama :)

As said before the contacts are most likely dirty on the plug.

Where abouts are you based in QLD xzara ? the connectors you need too clean are the ones where the wiring plugs into the side of the afm.
