    Hi,
Well I bought a 90' Z32 TT not running. Car blew a power steering hose, wrecked alternator and stopped running. Has since fixed hose and alternator, replaced battery, but it won't start. Has fuel and spark and turns over but won't fire. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to start looking.
    Thanks in advance.

P.S ECU diagnosis says no issues.

fuel + spark + no fire = compression issue doesnt it?

if timing hasnt changed then that shouldnt be an issue...

are you sure you have spare? PS goes it might have killed your PTU as thats in the same area etc...

Try when turning it over giving it some boot.... It may be flooded like mine the other day. I held half throttle to keep it lit and it chucked out some rich sort of white smoke... It's been business as usual since

How do you know it has fuel and spark. and as mentioned have you done a compression check? fuel at the rail does not mean fuel in the engine, while turning it over use a long screwdriver on the injector and the handle hard against your ear and listen for a clicking noise, this should be present on all injectors any not clicking are not squirting or even worse are not shutting off. After turning it over a bit pull some plugs and see if they are wet with fuel or even have the odour of fuel. if wet with fuel then the plug is most likely not firing, (here I would suggest a cheap set of new copper core plugs until you get the car running well). If the electrode is covered with oil then you have other issues to look at but all the same it most like is not igniting the mixture. If you suspect they are not firing then you can carefully test the plug against the engine or use a tester for the coil pack. Also if you have access to a timing light use plug 1 and test that the light flashes while the engine is running and that your base timing is set to 15 deg. Finally if you have had a fried alternator there is a chance your ECM may be faulty or you may have blown a main fuse - if you can find a local friendly Z owner they may let you trial a working ECM as well.

    Hi,
I have taken the spark plugs out they are wet. I am going to try a new ptu. Also is a ECM the ecu? If it is I have a spare ecu. Is there any way to test the ecu? The compression is fine I was told by the mechanic (he said the car had electrical issues).
    Thanks

ECM - ECU same thing different name. everything I have seen a bad PTU will normally start and either run on some cylinders or cut out randomly. but worth a try for sure.

ive seen bad PTU's not start...

pull the pugs out, on a coil pack and hold the plug against the chassis so when you crank it you will see the spark...

with the fuel can u hear it priming? if not disconnect the fuel in, put the hose in a bottle and crack slightly to see if fuel is pumping

    Timing

I have tried everything now!! well atleast I thought everything.. today I decided to go for broke and see if the time is out and sure enough the belt is missing 4 grooves. The cogs were all over the place!! Would this have done any damage to the engine as I was reading that the valves can hit the piston if timing is out?
    Thanks

    :br:

Yep :( normally bends all the valves in the heads :( You might be lucky though. Chuck on a new timing belt and see how you go.

I eventually got it to start when I squirted ethanol into the carby's but after a few starts and trying to keep it going which I did on the last try, then disaster I tried to start it again and the timing belt starts slipping, so I pull all the timing case and the harmonic balance off to find out that the left hand exhaust cam has seized. So I have ended up wrecking it, thanks again for all your help guys.
