So, today, I removed the aux fan in order to provide better airflow to my aftermarket external auto tranny cooler. I really don't use the AC much if at all and rather provide better cooling to the tranny. I installed m external cooler behind the aux fan, so I assume that by removing it, I could then provide better airflow , therefore better cooling. Do you guys think its a bad idea? How many of you have removed the AUX fan? I don't have any over heating issues and my temp remains low as is.
Very bad idea. This fan also is used as a backup by the ECU for both coolant temp and AC head pressure control. Its a failsafe in event that the priumary fan is not doing its job well enough. Its there for a very good reason M8, you need a seriously good reason to remove it and dicking around with a transmission cooler is not good enough. E
my tranny cooler is mounted right behind the number plate (I should do something about that) so the fan on the air con radiator (that's what you are talking about) is not affecting air flow. Why don't you get a tranny cooler fan? Get a bigger tranny cooler if you have a real problem.
You guys are right, I will put the aux fan back on. I will check for a cooler with a fan and try mounting it in front of the aux fan
Just thought I could improve the air flow. I don't think the tranny is over heating Not sure if it's worth noting but I live in a fairly cool area. Average summer temp is 30c , winter is about 2c. After reading the posts , I think it's a bad idea as well . Thanks for the input guys!
I find mine never worked. But in the fuse box my aux fan relay is missing. Does somebody know where to source them or the part number?? Thanks
