A mate of mine just did a manual conversion on his supra, including a twin plate clutch (with pull to push converter). He can't get the clutch to disengage -any ideas?

Have already checked slave cyl operation and all good. Doing some brain storming on his behalf...

Often with twin plates there is a different size throwout bearing carrier. Did he change that when he installed the clutch or put the OEM one back in? New clutch or second hand?

Pull to push converter? sounds like a bad start right there.

Remove slave cylinder and push lever by hand until you feel the release bearing touching the fingers and have a look at the position of the lever relative to the rod from the slave cylinder. You might find an issue there.

One of the plates in backwards? that'll screw it up every time.

The supra 6 speeds ran a 2 stage clutch from factory, maybe something with that?

Was the clutch installed with the same gearbox before? Has he tried removing the access covers and simply looking to see what moves and what does not when someone hits the pedal? If he's 100% sure the parts are correct then something is missing or wrong on the installation. perhaps something in back-to-front.

Dual mass flywheel in the 6 speed Supras, not sure by what you mean by a 2 stage??

Ha tell me about it! Bought the manual conversion kit with a decent HD single plate, and bought the used twin plate and conversion kit... Reminds me of what web were saying in chat yesterday! Nothing wrong with the single plate but I think he's into drifting and wants the bite of a twin plate

Ill suggest he remove covers, that's a good call. He's certain he's installed the plates correctl.

Everyone is always certain they did it right until someone points out what they did wrong
