On Tuesday evening, my beautiful Wife changed lanes to overtake some slow traffic in front of her on a dark stretch of the A.C.T.'s Monaro Highway, and merged straight into the side of a Medium Rigid Truck, which having no side lighting, she missed seeing.

The Zed has certainly come off fourth best - first best being the truck driver without injury, second best being his truck with only minor damage, and third best being my lucky Wife who escaped with only a bump on the head from the B-Pillar.

Then, to add insult to minor injury and the kind of damage you can't drive away from, the poor lass then had to ring me and tell me she'd crashed my Zed... Really don't envy her that...

Could have been so much worse, and although I feel my Zed's pain, I couldn't be happier that my Wife has come out of the experience with only a couple of days worth of bruised noggin...

Figured you all might like to see a best case scenario of what it looks like when your Zed comes off second best to a truck...

    Lil' Baz..... :zlove:

Turn signal is still good. :p

Glad the unfairlady is good except for a bump on the head, could of been lots nastier.

Does this mean you get a new set of wheels for Christmas ? :)

I'm sure this can be fixed - looks panel and the bit of steering/suspension can be replaced.

Agree - At least your wifes ok, the cars replaceable but your wife is not.

Being a truck this could have been much much more worse injury wise for her

Tell her to be more careful on the road in future. Its a good time to let her know that you care more about her, than the car and your just happy she is ok. It will go a long way in the back of her mind and remind her whats important.

    I'm glad she is ok.
    Cheers

    Hi Baz,
Lynn and I are really shocked to see your No.2 Baby in that untidy condition.:p

Extremely pleased to hear that Leah is unhurt(although somewhat embarrassed I imagine).:eek:

Take better care of both your girls from now on!:p:zlove::zlove::br:

Sorry to see your pride and joy in that state, glad Leah is ok though.
Car is only plastic and metal, few new parts and a bit of work it will be as good as new again.:)

Even without side lights...... How do you not see a truck right next to you?

  9. CHILI

Very easily, if your seated below the height of the truck-bed, mid-way along the side, on a badly lit roadway at night with nothing in your rear-view mirror(because it's beside you).
Doesn't excuse fault on Leah's part, but it can happen to the best of us.

In saying that though, trucks aren't really quiet and stealth bomber like...

Regardless, great to see that the Mrs wasn't badly injured.

For f*#ks sake people, do you think Baz posted this so he could get free life advice? Accidents do happen, it's the risk you take every time you enter a car! Luckily no one was seriously injured.

All the best getting the car sorted. Bit of panel damage, but nothing serious.
New fender/mirror, new front bar (but might be repairable), door and rear look repairable & a new wheel(s) & you're... :br:

    not good

Not good about the car but good news that your wife's ok. Sad to see when zeds get banged up like this, but accidents do happen
Oh well looks like a bit of work on the zed coming up or a new one :zlove:

Thats true jamie, however Iain's zed has a pretty big sound system in it and leah most likely had the volume up HIGH! :)

Plus she wears glasses, so that must have been the reason she missed the truck! Lol (she gunna kill me for that) hehehe :)

On another note, leah ended up doing a very bloody good job of pulling the car up cause the RH tuneagent castor rod snapped! thats really why the fender looks like it does!
She also said the car got very out of shape in the backend.

While i was unhappy to get the call @10pm to come and investigate the accident of a car that ive spent over 300hrs on building, i was very pleased to find leah safe and unhurt.

Firstly. so glad to hear your wife and you are ok.
Cars can be repaired or replaced, people can't. Especially good people like yourselves.

Now that we know you are fine ... OUCH!

I'm sure that in time your Zed will be back to its former glory. Good luck and gods speed

My Wife thanks everyone for their well wishes! :zlove:

As pretty much everyone has said or implied above, what matters most is that my beautiful Wife came out of the accident largely unharmed. My Zed can be replaced. My Wife cannot. Though all can rest assured that the incident has definitely been one that she has learned a painful, unpleasant, and expensive lesson from - and I imagine that it will be quite some time before she stops saying :sorry:...

In her own words, she will certainly be head-checking much more thoroughly in future...

As far as damage goes, so far I've been told that the entire suspension set-up for the front right corner needs to be replaced (and I mean everything), and that they're apparently going to try to repair the front bar (despite a chunk of it have been torn clean off, and I suspect, more stress fractures than you could poke several sticks at).

The quote, thus far, is at $6.5K, and that doesn't include such things my Speedy rims (which are out of production, and probably only still available in the U.S.), the majority of the front right suspension, and the repair of the front bar, for example...

Thank God for Comprehensive Insurance... :bow2:

I'll be going in on Monday afternoon to have a direct meeting with the repairer to discuss things in more detail, so I'll have a better idea then...

    Lil' Baz..... :zlove:

While it sucks she hit a truck, mad props for being able to keep the thing together at what I'm assuming was a decent speed with a snapped castor rod AFTER bouncing off a truck. Thats ignoring how scary the whole thing must have been.

Let me know if you would like me to come along to the repairer Iain.

Hate to say it but that sounds to me like an assessor trying to write the car off.

  20. Lil' Baz

The assessor has already stated that it's repairable damage, and the $6.5K is a preliminary quote. It's just that the repairer's quote, which I do have a copy of, thus far doesn't include these items - which are listed as $0.00 at the moment. The repairer is still sourcing prices for several parts, and is awaiting a quote from a local bodykit specialist for the "repair" :)confused:) of the front bar. As for the rims, I have to wait and see if they can source them in Australia (which I seriously doubt), and if not, I'll have to see if I can find them in U.S. again as I did to get them in the first place.

I'll know a lot more when the repairer walks me through everything at their shop, right there at my Zed... Hopefully tomorrow...
