Hey guys, just after a bit of advice on changing my rear muffler on my NA.

It currently has the stock little pea shooters on it, I'm not really fussed with the sound but the look of them doesn't do the car justice:

When I bought the car I got given these mufflers which when cleaned up a bit will look quite good I think. The inlet pipe diameter is around 6cm so 2.25 inches I think.

I'm just wanting to know if it would be worth putting them on bearing in mind the rest of my exhaust system is in fine working order. So is it possible to just change rear mufflers and leave the rest of the system, also would it affect the sound negatively as in droning etc?

Any help and opinions are welcome.

Is that 2 hot dog mufflers on a Y piece. Is there one for each side ?. They will probably be fairly noisy :D

If thats what it looks like then I guess so haha. Yep have them for both sides, the outlets aren't massive though, how noisy is noisy? I like a good sound but don't want it to sound faster than it looks haha.

Hey, just go to SuperCheap Auto and have a look at the slip on stainless/ or chrome end pipe tips.
Just tap them on with a rubber mallet. I am sure you will find something that will flare out the pipes to what you require :)

Although I'm doing it mainly for looks I just couldn't bring myself to do that haha.

Also I don't know if this makes a difference or is normal but the mufflers do have a honeycomb inner lining which I assume is to reduce the noise?

Your car looks nice and clean, very nice.

I dont really want to be dropping the exhaust and doing all that though, would be happy to just get an exhaust shop to fit my mufflers if they wont sound terrible afterwards.

You can get the exhaust shop to put on new tips that you like instead of changing the actual mufflers...as you wont know exactly how it sounds & how loud it is till you install it & if it sounds bad or too loud then you would need to put the stock ones back on or just replace the tips

Have an exhaust shop cut/weld these on, keen to see how they look!

I bought a set of LaBree mufflers over 4 years ago and I'm still quite happy with them.

Haha the heart tips are a must have.

Ok in all honesty I wouldnt mind a better sound aswell I just dont want it sounding stupid.
The fact that I already have the mufflers is the reason I want to put them on rather than just modifying the tips.

Also I'm with anti, I actually like the specific look of the mufflers I have with the short stout exhaust tip so Im also keen to see them on.

I suppose I'll go speak to an exhaust shop and see what they say about noise etc.

I don't think a muffler shop is going to know ahead of time what the sound would be from a used unknown muffler. But I'm sure they'll gladly take your money and install them for you and perhaps pay a little lip service just to gain your patronage.
I'd be very carefull to ensure they are mounted far enough outwards or you might see your rear bumper discolor or even worse, melt.
To be honest, I don't think those mufflers would deliver much in the way of sound deadening. If you're an NA, it could be obnoxiously loud.

I might pm zforce and see what he says about the sound.

jschrauwen: How does your car sound with the dual tip mufflers?
If you assume by looking at a picture that they will be obnoxiously loud, wouldn't a exhaust "expert" know what to expect from them by inspecting them?

Also what is the honeycomb lining for? I might take a pic
