Errrmm.. Its a VLSD. Your going to have quite a challenge to shim that.

Who needs a nismo diff anyways? This is probably the best way I could think of locking the rear end... entirely

Look on boost crusing, or Nissan Silvia (or whatever those guys are called now, hardtuned or something). Lots of info on doing R200's (NA diffs).

    he he

Thats one axel locked but what about the other one. Thats no good because the other axel can spin freely  It's not a locked diff :D

Depends what condition your diff is to start off with I guess, does it not lock at all currently or what?

My mate shimmed the diff in his r32 (same diff as an na 300) tight enough that it may as well be locked, can't do a u-turn without chirping tyres now. From memory he used a 0.8mm shim on top of whatever was in there originally. That said his diff wasn't too bad beforehand so you may need more than that.

Again, the R200 in the NA is a VLSD. The vlsd center is unserviceable.
What part actually gets shimmed to "tighten" an NA diff up???????

Perhaps ur M8's '32 was a GTR which uses a mechanical lsd?

I'm not sure how it works, never cared enough to look into it properly. But it does work, the tight arse drifter kiddies do it.

I know Ztoy did it here as well.

Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it's not true  32gtst with a viscous centre btw.

At a guess I'd say it woul have something to do with squishing the plates inside the centre closer together causing the liquid to heat up and bind faster than before.

I didnt say it wasnt true did I.
I want to know how it was done to a VLSD. Im not interested in hypothesis and ruminations.

    Have a read through this:
    http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/164288-diydiff-shimming-for-r33-gtst/

It has all the info you need, like how to do it & all the part numbers and different sizes.
That is the skyline diff, i think they are the same as the Z NA Diff, The TT Diff may need different shims?
if you read look through the first few pages of comments there are people who tried different size shims and how much difference it made.
I was going to give it a go to my R32 track pig when i have some time.

I shimmed my spare diff with a 1mm out of memory. It completely locked it up and was unsafe for daily driving however it was absolutely brilliant at drift practice at qld raceway :D
