Today, I'm removing my stereo surround. I understand removing the long horizontal screw cover is sort of tricky, and very easy to break. But no one tells me exactly how to yank it off, they just tell you to pull on it "gently". I really just don't want to break it, can someone give me a 2 line write-up of how to get this piece off safely? Thanks
Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, gently lift the bottom edge of the strip. If you look at a point about 3-4cms in from each end, you will find that there is a small spring-metal clip behind the strip. Gently insert the screwdriver into the lower edge of this clip and lever it outwards very carefully(it should pop out of the small, square hole that locates it in the Stereo Surround). Repeat this at the opposite end of the strip and it will come off easily. DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE!!!!
Or don't be a pansy and pull it off? Mines been off more times than Jamie has given wristies to random men (and that's a lot), and mines never broken.
Protip: I removed the metal tangs and attached a strip of velcro to the back of the trim strip. Easy peasy.
Use several screw drivers at the ends where the clamps are - just to make sure and as bracket said - dont be a panzy and pull it off - lol
I GOT IT OFF! It wasn't nearly as easy as it's made out to be But I don't think it's ever been off this car before. I'm not sure if the prongs are supposed to come out with it or not, but one side wouldn't come no matter which way I tried to lever it. Eventually the plastic separated from the prong and it came out. Thanks for the help!
Yeah mine uses double sided tape. Looks fine, doesnt move around, dont have to fret over stupid plastic clips.
Better to be a "Pansy" then a knuckle dragging "Neanderthal". A Z32 Tool Kit should contain more than a Sledgehammer and Super Glue.
There are two metal clips about an inch in from either side, run a screw driver up on one side, pop it out, repeat on the other side. Cover a very thin flat blade screw driver with a t-shirt to prevent marring. Once you know where the holes are you can skip the t-shirt. Just read your reply about getting it off. Def want to epoxy that clip back on.
I definitely don't plan on frequently removing it. But on the off chance that I have to, I'd rather it not be a complete plastic-snapping, finger-shredding headache.
stereo surround The whole stereo surround can be taken off without undoing any of the screws. "Gently" lever the plastic surround at top, middle and bottom on both sides
