    Hi

Have to install new inner tie rods/ also correctly known as rack ends.

Was told there is a special tool needed to fit these myself - but I cannot see it mentioned in the manual.

So....how hard is it too install these rack ends, can I do this myself?
What is the special tool needed and/ or can I make one up myself or are they even cheap to buy?

Is there anything too watch when doing it, or tips to make it easy - experienced advice is what I am after to make it easy replacing them

Mechanically I have no problems in a car at all but I am a real noob when it comes to anything steering as I havent played with racks before.

    Cheers

You'll need a ball joint remover, but they can be bought at any Supercheap for not much cash. Besides that, you won't need any specialised tools to remove the inner tie rods, just a wrench and a screwdriver.

there must be a special tool tho, i tried to replace mine and failed. where the inner tie rod screws into the HICAS bar, there is only about a 5mm gap, there is no way to get a spanner in there at all.

also is there a tech article in the tech section? i cant seem to find one

    cheers

I've got an NA, so I'm not sure about the HICAS tie rods. The steering rack ends have flats wide enough for a normal open-ended spanner.

yeh thats right, but the part on the HICAS that the rack ends bolt into twist when you try and undo them, so some sort of thin spanner is needed to hold it in place, i tried making my own tool out of some 5mm flat bar but that didn't work lol, mild steel wast too soft to hold it in place.

Had the same issue today on a TT ie the part on the HICAS that the rack ends bolt into twist when you try and undo them, so some sort of thin spanner is needed to hold it in place ....... Is there a special "Nissan Tool" available ? -- or what is the answer ?

    I used a big shifter.

Buy a cheap open end spanner and grind the sides down just enough to allow it to slip into place.

    Me too.

But my whole bar was off the car. Then i just used my foot to "help" undo it.

Both sides came off easy as.
