So im going to japan in feb next year and thought about getting some parts for my z, budget is 5k, ideas on whats good to get over there cheap compared to over here? btw z is pretty much stock exept for exhaust and rims
You looking at just new or 2nd hand? I think that a lot of the stuff from Yahoo auctions has free shipping in Japan, so can be sent to your hotel if you get your timing right. Things like suspension would be cheaper, but then heavy to post back. Lighter stuff might be the way to go - such as 2k-spec cleared rear lights, ducted urethane nose panel, 2k-spec headlight inserts, silicone hose/pipes, centre stereo bezel, quality guages, etc.

I lived in Yokosuka for 6 years. There is a ton to do depending on where you will be. My recommendations are: 1) UpGarage. They sell tons of used parts. The down side is that it can be difficult to find Z32 parts. I did mnage to find my Border Racing vented hood there for the equivalent of $300 USD. I also got my wheels/tires there. If nothing else, it's fun to walk through it. 2) Super Autobachs. It's your typical car parts store (Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, whatever your equivalent would be over there) but it has a lot more to it. Some of them can be HUGE. You're sure to find all kinds of aftermarket stuff there as well as some literature like the Fairlady Z magazines. 3) Z32 Zone. Nobody speaks English there but Mr. Omura can normally figure out what you need. I used to stop by there all the time (back when they were still Tokyo Auto) and get stuff from him. He's a good guy. I have a picture of him holding my son. You can also e-mail him and he will use a translator to reply back to you although he doesn't always reply. They mostly have new stuff that can take a little while to get to the shop but they do ave a limited supply onhand. Some of it is used as well so you get a better deal on it. 4) Daikoku Futo. It's the Yokohama Bay Bridge. On Friday and Saturday nights, they have a giant meet with all kinds of loud music and supped up cars just hanging out. It's a great experience! 5) Fuji Speedway. Check events to see if there is anything going on out there. They have everything from the major races to a small drifting track. A great site to work out your train schedule is Hyperdia. I never actually went there. I heard a lot of people talk about it though. Yeah, I'm in the U.S. Navy. I did a tour of sea duty and shore duty out there. I forgot to mention the big Buddha in Kamikura. Also, can't forget about the weird people in Yoyogi Park out in Harajuku. You can take a train to Harajuku and walk to Shibuya through the back streets. If you go the right way, you'll end up at the world's busiest crosswalk outside the Shibuya train station.
