thanks for the info. I guess it really can add up if you go all out.

so say i wasnt going for more power than now, i was just trying to bulletproof the engine so I wouldnt be worried about driving it hard.

so forget all the honing boring grinding porting if its unecessary. Also yes assuming my zed is currently in great healthy nick bar the engine not being cracked open before. Exhaust, intake, clutch, radiator, intercoolers, hoses, connectors, ptu, injectors, ecu, fuel supply all done properly.

What would be involved then? Say Id just want to throw on either a high flow kit or more likely a pair of GT28RS. Not wasting money on power apart from that, just trying to get it reliable.

Rods, pistons, bearings, head gasket, 100k seal kit.
What else would be recommended on a strengthening build as opposed to more power? Valve springs, head and main studs, metal head gasket?

Really appreciate the info guys. I know theres stuff on this everywhere on the net but just reading cant give you as much perspective as a bit of discussion like this. I thought my tt swap would cost 3k and take 3months as well :p cost 6 and took 6 in the end. Dont want to make the same mistake with a rebuild :p

I'm close to ten grand (I think) on engine alone

    Bored/hone block forged internal (eagle/wiseco)
New gasket kit, new oil/water pump
Arp bolts, AMS manifolds, new engine mounts
    T28r turbos, 3" split dumps (toy z) new o2's
Nismo 555 dual supply/return with after turbo smart fpr1200
Stock reco'ed heads, arp bearings, balanced crank

I pulled the engine, stripped it down supplied block/heads with all the after Market bits to a pro received back a completed long block. Then I bolted on
    Manifolds, turbos, water lines etc.

I have done as much as I thought I could safely do, will take it to a pro before even trying to turn it over to check everything is done right.

Spent most money on engine to begin with now it's all the other incidentals, new wiring harness, remove oem spoiler, convert to 5 speed, painting engine bay, new body kits, converted to a na cradle which was rebuilt with new bearings and bushes, new shocks/springs sway bars, got steering rack rebuilt, stainless exhaust (3"'dumps, 100 cpi cats which are 3" input 2.5" output, uas x pipe, magna flow muffs) new rotors got some brembos to be rebuilt as well....

Shit it just dawned on me I'm addicted i reckon I have ploughed at least 20k in over last couple years, I think i got this far pretty cheaply as I took my time, did as much as I could myself and joined about every gb on this forum for the last five years. When I joined this forum in 2006 I think, the gb's were thick and heavy for great gear at great prices the amount of gb's on here now is nothing compared to years gone by...

Yes I took advantage of a lot of those group buys also.

They seemed to pretty much dry up when Rob260 finished his car lol

Boost is already at 15. I want to put it upto 18 or put some GT28RS on and push it reliably to say 330rwkw. Replicating BennyC's build but being able to hold that power more often I guess.

So honing and boring is about power gains, new bearings forged internals is about reliability.

So all I'm wondering is internally what is required to do this reliably.

So it seems that's the basics then-

Rods pistons bolts bearings seals and valve springs. Plus a general clean up of the heads.

Any other basic replacement missing there?

Haha yeah I'm not buying parts like I used to... but parts are so much cheaper online now than they used to be too. I suppose there are less "discount" opportunities now but "retail" pricing is much lower than it has ever been.
