Anyone got any more information on this zed? My dad's mate showed me this poster he had lying around and I thought I'd ask...

He also told me a "story" about another zed he knew about, which when going down the straight of a track (can't remember which one), started spinning the wheels at some ridiculous speed. Apparently the ECU was playing up or something, and doubling the boost or something... Like I said, I have my doubts. From memory he said it was spinning at 200km+

there is a yellow one i have seen at kwinana motorplex that atarted spinning its wheels half track resulting in a loss. if it had not lost traction it would have won with an easy 7 . and its still got a vg30

Ran High 7's @185 ish mph , Crashed on a badly preped track back in the late 90's , I watched it plow into the emergency vehicle opening in the crash barrier at willowbank ,Big hit (lucky to survive) VL Engine mech injection on methanol , They had it all in a torana originaly , I think the class they ran in was D gas or DD Gas. Held multiple records until its demise, They changed the classes around after that (may still hold records)

This Z was just so far ahead of its time, that it was only recently beaten by RIPS as the worlds quickest RB30, holding the record for over 10 years!

As spectacular as this vehicle is, does anyone here really think this is a Z32?
The resemblance to our beloved Z32 starts and ends with a Z32 look-a-like shell(mechanically it has almost nothing to do with a 300ZX).

if you're talking about the yellow one with AC Delco stickers that is running a chev small block not a VG

This, I hate how drag cars with a look-a-like shell are seen as this awesome version of our car (Or any car for that matter) when really, they have nothing to do with actual cars.

I used to date the daughter of the driver, though i don't know much about the car unfortunately, only that her dad had horrible accident in it.

Maybe this is a zed just stripped and with an rb in it?

that car still holds the nationla speed record for DD/GA at 172.24mph set in 1999 at calder.
they were way ahead of there time with things like data logging and fuel managment. was awesome to watch back in the day cars like that and the little sprite from QLD (SR20 or was it an FJ ???)race against Victor Bray and Zap in competition befor the days of doorslammer.

the yellow 300 at the motorplex is Mick "patch" Frossos it runs a 404 Chrysler, I think he hold his national record too ? I have a 1 peice front end off that car.

It is a full, purpose-built, space-framed Chassis(with nil input from NISSAN)clothed in a Z32 look-a-like body. Nothing more, nothing less(other than the usage of various items donated from other legitimate manufacturers).
There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of this, it's just NOT a Z32!:zlove::br:

It's still got the targa tops and the bonnet clips look like the right place for a factory bonnet, and it even has a duck tail on it still, so I think it did start out as a 4 seater body before they took all the 300ZX out of it.

Agree with you chilli. There is a fine line between the boy racers I use to watch in Japan take an old 260z, pick it apart where they could, throw everything they could unbolt out to reduce weight. Strap in the biggest second hand engine they could afford and run it down the 1/4 and drift on the streets of Japan. (AND all filmed on VHS video tapes =)

And the fine line vs that of a company or professional racing teams who do it for a living and do more then just pick up the actual car and strip it, and have stupid funds to stop at nothing. Where do you draw the line ?

HOWEVER, There is a guy in finland who has the worlds fastest hyundai. Now, he bought a hyundai, striped it to individual pieces (I'm not talking pulling out seats or anything you can to make it lighter, I mean literally to each piece the car was made of). THE ONLY piece that is still a Hyundai is the body shell and even THAT was modified, stretched and rolled so that engine and other bits could fit

To me, there is nothing there that is a hyundai, nothing, BUT for whatever reason the car experts class it as a hyundai. Guess cause they just couldn't be bothered having to re-name all purpose built drag queens, so maybe there is something in the rules that say, you have to try and make it look like something we can call it ???

Smarter people then me might be able to answer that one, because everyone is patting this guy on the back for "building" the worlds fastest Hyundai. Wow if I spent 1/2 a million bucks on a car, bet I could make it fast too.
Hey yeah I'd make the worlds fastest mr bean car, you know the 3 wheeled one =)
Anyone got a spare $500,000 they feel like pee up against a wall ???

where do you draw the line ???
patches 300 (the yellow one in vid) has factory body shell, doors, hatch, taga's ... so the body atleast is factory (or some of it)... the rest if fully fabbed and custom, so no you wouldnt call it a factory Z32.

alot of guys on here run aftermarket turbos, exhausts, suspension, diffs, intercoolers, body kits ect ect ect i could go on all day.

so where do you draw the line _____________________________

They used to have an LJ Torana with the RB 30 set up originally , Then they were sponsored by Nissan (at least partialy) i guess they just wanted something better than a maxima body?

Chevzed : Jeff Watsons sprite had a FJ 20 (fast and reliable) These days his nephew has a rear engined Dragster which jeff tunes (FJ20 of coarse) That engine was originaly out of a Nissan Gazelle street car (9 sec)

Bad vid of the sprite in action

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

In a similar vein would be saying that Kerry (ballbag) Bailey's 300zx sports sedan is a Nissan.
The only thing even remotely similar to a Nissan is the sillhouette (shape) of the bloody thing!
