    Hey guys,

I was curious as to whether the removal of the standard parker lights in Australia is illegal? I'm replacing the aus-spec front bar with a 99 spec one which removes the need for the indicator/light combo. Not that I'm really concerned because I am running HID's after all.

Also are 'daytime running lights' classed as the same thing?

    Cheers,
    Aaron

Good question - when Dept of Transport did a run-over my car, they checked all the basics - high-beams, indicators, horn, wipers, etc....and parkers. So I'm guessing they could class that as a defect if they were factory standard and had been removed. While many new cars have daytime running lights, I'm sure they still have parkers. Interestingly enough, they didn't care about my HID's.

I was wondering the same as i have got 2k indicators and fog ducts...so i dont have any parker lights at the moment. I was told that it is illegal to have it without parkers. If that is correct, where would i be able to install parkers?

as long as some form of lighting comes on in the first click of you light switch it is legal, so technicaly you can hook your head lights upto your parker relay and its all sweet, this is due to many older cars used the headlights as parkers

Pretty sure it's illegal not to have them

Iv'e drilled a second set of holes into the 99 spec indicators, so both my indicators and parkers are in the same housing, works a treat

That sounds like a good idea, I might do the same. Do you have any pics?

I can understand the need for rear parkers but dont know why its required to have them at the front. Another thing, I have read somewhere that you turn your parkers on when you are parking but who does that anyway lol

    misszen Red ones go faster!

Not sure about parkers themselves, but indicators and brake lights cannot be moved in position. They can be changed to a different type, but not moved in position.
Thats NSW reg rules, not sure about other states.

Not the question your looking for the answer to, but it may provide some relative related info.

you have to have some form of park light. yes you can swap them out for day time runners. you can even have coloured lights except for red, blue and orange

why orange?, i know red and blue because it could confuse people with police or fire vehicles.

i had those blue led squirters on my focus and had the cops pull me over having a go at me that they are illigal neons, wasnt too happy when i pointed out that they wernt neons they were leds :p

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Parking lights are supposed to be used as their name implies... for parking on public roads!!! So they say. Like anybody does as a rule!!! Mostly just used as an emergency measure to mark the outline of the car at night and the colours are to determine which way the car is facing from a distance....... like boats I spose.

Parkers are often incorporated into the headlights but are separate low wattage globes set into, or behind a small clear section of the headlights reflectors. Otherwise ur battery 'd flatten pretty quick!!

Yet, all forward facing clearance lights on all cars, trucks and their trailers, along with small box/boat/et-al trailers must be White or Amber so not much distinction there with emergency/roadside work markers.
However, you get ur arse kicked if you drive around with flashing amber lights going and no hazard existing.

99 spec bumper alternative mod is to urethane/fiberglass up the parker light frame. So as a smoother bumper look.
The parker function is moved and incorporated into the indicators. This wiring/bulb install is done several ways. There is a guy on tt.net selling wire to bulb housing (quick splice job). Or ebay the bulb housing and dremel to fit.
There is a detailed/pictured thread about on US300zxclub.

    99 spec bumper upgrade...

Requires a rewire for turn signals etc...
    http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?products_id=3872
Can buy the same thing on ebay for cheaper, part number etc (very common).Someone also sells the similar Z1 product on TT.net.

Also here's the "how to" thread link to highlighting the mods
    http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?t=188962

The 99 bumper parker housing mod is known as a "99 spec shave"..... When the number plate bumps are cut/removed and parker housers are filled in with fiberglass for a bumpers smoother look.

    Good luck

The duel filament solution sounds like a good idea but it's still illegal because the lights will be orange.. the only way it could work is if there are two separate globes

That zed is somewhat similar to what mine will look like :) only need tint, smooth nose panel and bonnet :)

I actually do like the look of how it is positioned on the front bar. But would prefer an alternative method instead of drilling into my 2k bar :(
