Just wondering do z32's come stock with variable engine speed limiters. I am NOT talking about increasing rev limiter or top speed of vehicle. I am talking about the feature that allows u to set engine max speed at e.g. 60 km/h (to avoid speeding) and you can turn it off whenever you want to. I know this feature comes stock with some cars,if it doesn't come stock on z32 does anybody know of any aftermarket modifications? Thanks in advance Greekrambo
No cruise control you travel at a constant speed. This feature allows you to travel at any speed as long as its not over e.g. 60 km/h. Simply throttle is controlled not allowing u to exceed 60km/h however can go under 60
I believe he is talking about the speed limiter that some of the newer cars like citroen have which allow you to set a speed and you still have to use the throttle but you can hold it flat to the floor and it will only speed up to whatever you set it to. No they dont have that as standard because the car was built 20 odd years ago and they use cables to control the throttle butterfly not electronics that the newer cars use. I dont think you could easily adapt our cars to run that kind of thing simply because of that fact.
1) sell Z 2) acquire VN commodore. 3) use variable speed chime function and never worry about speeding again Alternatively, buy that Citroen, and consider a plausible story to tell your parents when they find out you're gay.
It has already been covered and done and is possible with a variable resistor. Do a search and you will find it!
Yes - there is no reason why you cannot do it! My err Owen - thanks for the pickup! It was hard to tell what he is was talking about at first - lol After re-reading it, the same applies still, except it applies to the speed limiter .i.e. It is possible to put a selectable variable resistor on the speed limiter and thus it would achieve what you are trying to do as the signal given for limiting is simply on /off and thus it could be determined by the variables in the resistor itself, you would have to calibrate it initially, but once done, it would work fine. So yes it can be done! Hope this was helpful to you Jamie - (misszens other half)
So how are you going to use a variable resistor to change the HEX code in the ECU? I'd be interested to know
No, you'd intercept the speed signal to the ecu. Although you'd be needing to raise the voltage to fool it that you were doing 184+ instead of 60, so I'm not quite sure how it would work. Also don't know where the speed signal is intercepted for the steering sensitivity either. If it's in the ECU, then throw that idea out the window. Anyway, it would prove more difficult that worthwhile. I would think a speed alert chime is a far better alternative...at least then you have no one controlling your right foot if you are in urgent need of the GO button.
the new car setups will allow you to go over the preset speed when you plant your right foot for just that reason... although not completely impossible (if you are an electrical engineer) it is still a big waste of time..
Hitec ECU can have valet mode added. According to the Hitec site http://hitecperformance.com/ you can get Valet mode map added to the ECU to limit performance. I assume this is why your asking the question (valet, kids etc?) Cheers Mark
Yep, I've mapped my ECU like this, I have three (switchable) maps: Normal - Any Speed. Valet - Up to 60km/h Immobiliser - This is actually quite a clever use of the speed limiting function and along with the rev limiter set to something low (can't remember I think it was 200rpm or something) it won't let the car start... I was going to make and sell kits for this but never got around to it... Best laid plans and all! I could have a look at it again if there is enough interest Cheers, Matt.
