Firstly guys, sorry if this has already been posted but I have been searching for four days to find a related problem post and have had no luck.

First I love my Zed 300, NA, 1990 2+2, only had her for about 7mnths

So heres the prob went out four days ago, to start my baby, hit the disarm on the immobiliser remote, she beeped like always unlocked as usual, I put the key in the ignition turned it to 'on', she made her usual fuel pump prime noise for about a second as always, i waited for the orange light on the right side of the steering wheel to go off as i always do, (not sure what it is exactly).

Kicked her in the guts, (sorry lady members) and she turned over with no fire, tried again same result, she cranked from memory 2or 3 times, fan rotating, no starter motor ticking, plenty of power from the battery.

Tried another six or seven times same procedure and result, thought no fuel?
But the fuel pump was priming each time, at this stage the battery was starting to drain, its only 2mths old, then I noticed a buzzing sound coming through the speaker in my right hand speaker so i got down on the ground to listen and this is when i noticed the buzzing was coming from under the car, so I jacked her up climbed under and it is coming from the back of the tranny, oh yeah she's an auto, (solinoid???) up there somewhere?
Its a completely new noise by the way.

This noise starts as soon as she has power and stays on the whole time, its a constant buzz.
Have nearly flattened battery, so i put it on a charger for 6 hours, but while getting ready to take off the terminals I noticed a relay was ticking about every 8 seconds, so I pulled them one by on to find which one, and when I removed the EGI relay it buzzed at me.

Sorry about the novel but I just wanted to explain it the way it happened, so I guess what I am trying to ask is: is there a solinoid, can you access it easily or do I have to drop the tranny, or is the relay causing the no go

Please help, I have read the wealth of knowledge on the forum, so hope someone can help, thnx guys and girls

    A few things to check.
1 - pull a coil and put a plug in it the lay of engine and get someone to crank while you check for spark. If no spark try a new p.t.u ? also check coil plugs for corosion and c.a.s plug for corrosion.
2 - do you have injectors firing ?. Get someone to crank while you listen with a screw driver for the click on each injector. Also check injector plugs for corrosion.
3 - REALLY A NO BRAINER - air supply ? should be o.k but had to ask.

Really need those three at the correct time for any motor to have a chance at running. Do a search for p.t.u to see what the differance between a series 1 and 2 is because if you have a series 1 my money would be on that as your problem. Member Vader sometimes sells series 2 P.T.U's with plugs so p.m him if you need one.
    Good luck Dave

No need to apologise for the long post mate. It's rare to have someone write such a lucid description of a fault, well done :)

Not sure what the problem is, in spite of your very good description. But I'd start by maybe checking all of your fuses.
I've seen some random crazy symptoms in parts of a Zed after a fuse blew on a seemingly unrelated circuit.

Buzzing from a solenoid in the auto transmission - the only cases I know of are from the line pressure solenoid. You'll hear it
buzz, or growl, as you work the throttle with the ignition on and engine not running. Usually silent when the throttle is closed,
unless you have a very low battery voltage. Then it might make a noise with the throttle closed.

If your battery went flattish after a short go at starting the engine then maybe the buzz/growl from the transmission is just a
knock-on symptom and not part of the disease.

EGI relay - dunno, will look into it tomorrow. The 8 second clicking is interesting...

Good luck with it mate, and again - good fault description

Overheads seem to be perfect, twin turbs, plugs all fire, they are only 2mth old platinums, coils are clickin fine, at this stage, she is breathing perfectly, twin turbs, I checked all of that strght away, but I thank you a ton, I have previously owned nothing but old school eights until 7 mths ago, so I am going from old school to jspec new school, luvin the drive, but being screwed by the electrics. I am old school dumb, tryin to give my better half the performance she expects and of course what I want for her is the best Z'd I can

I'm a little confused by your original post in which you state that you car is an NA, and the latter post which twice refers to "twin turbs"???? Which is it?

Considering your first post, the rest of them have gone down hill.

Regardless, i would be checking all the wiring to the ptu, cas, coil packs and injectors. Followed by the actual ecu. Might need reseating.

Have you any fancy aftermarket alarm system that may have had a relay or fuse die. As it sounds like its wanting to work but there is a signal loss there somewhere.

And remember, you're still driving a 80's era car. haha. 89 - 96 for us here.

Immobilizer related? - I'd be bypassing it to eliminate it from the equation.

How far back is the buzzing? No chance you have any exposed wiring in the auto harness causing a short to a solenoid to stay on?

    Thanks guys

Firstly sorry for some of my replies (esp you mickw) to some of the members.

Thankyou to all for your input into what the problem may have been, after testing and trying all possibilities suggested, replaced ENG EJI relay, I did find exposed wires in my auto harness, cut, replaced, joined and re-insulated them. Still no go.

So I lastly bypassed the immobilser, and thank you zx lovers, hey presto, my baby is ALIVE and purring like a kitten again.

Thanks heaps guys, your help has been greatly appreciated :D

Another stupid question how do thank members just include their name in this post as a thanks? I noticed that under our names a 'thanked' count thats all.
