    Howdy All
I'm thinking about removing the engine undertray but leaving the nose panel undertray on, have there been any known issues?
    eg.
    electrical due to splash/spray
does it lower engine bay temps?
do many of you run without one?
    any other thoughts?

    Cheers

What's the reason for removing it? It's there for a reason.

Don't remove any undertrays forward of the radiator - you want to feed as much air through the radiator as possible and the removal of anything before will create low pressure zones and reduce cooling ability.. Anything behind, go for it - zed engine bays benefit greatly from improving airflow out from behind the radiator through the use of bonnet vents etc. to reduce air dam effect.

    one reason,
because i had an oil leak fixed 3 months ago and they cleaned under the engine and tray and i assumed the diagnosed leak area was fixed so didn't bother checking their work. yesterday i noticed oil spots on the garage floor and had a quick look under the car, saw more oil than before so i have to remove the tray so see whats going on.
if the tray wasn't there i would have seen the oil leak sooner and maybe been able to take it back to the repairer under warranty.
    so early fluid leak detection
    another reason
maybe it will cool the engine bay a few degrees, helpful in summer.

apart from splash guard what other purpose does it serve?

Not true. I'm yet to put on either tray, front or behind radiator. Car rarely gets above 80c in hot summer traffic, let alone anywhere near the realm of overheating.

Our Z has never had overheating issues in the 6 years of owning it with the undertrays fitted.
I would of thought the one under the engine would help direct air around the sides of the engine and past the turbos before exiting underneath the car

Not saying it will cause overheating but it will reduce the efficiency of your radiator. Wouldn't be affected in traffic as you mention because the fan pulls it through regardless. However at speed imagine air coming through your front bumper - and there is nothing to guide it through the radiator. Air will take the route with lowest pressure - under the radiator, thus cooling ability is reduced. This problem is further compounded for TTs running FMICs without undertrays.

I'm the same... Haven't got around to making a new one to suit the repositioned radiator since the V8 came out.

I am always surprised when I see a car with either still there.

my engine under tray got ripped to shreds by a wallaby years ago. No issues without one as far as i can tell. But i agree... keep the pre-radiater under-trays.

Does any car overheat in Canada? Last time I was there half the cars I saw had wires hanging out the front so you could plug it in to heat the block UP! :)

LOL, very good question. We do get our share of hot summers here reaching low to mid 30C's for extended periods of time. Yes, we do have some that use block heaters but I suppose that would be for those that try to drive their Zed year round.
I used to have a block heater on every (daily driver) car I owned. There's nothing like getting into a cool/cold car in the morning and being able to easily turn the engine over with ease and have instant heat from the vents. The radiant heat fromthe block heater keeping the coolant warm also keeps the oil in the sump warmer too. We al know the benefits of instant oil flow in the engine on cold morning start-ups. The worst wear and tear an engine can experience in it's lifetime its the constant cold engine start-ups. Along with winter use, using a block heater in the fall and spring was a religious thing for me as I felt that I was doing the engine a great service by having it slightly warm prior to start. I believe there are numerous articles depicting the advantages of using a block heater even when the weather is not cold and even during the summer months while parked over-night.

I've had my shields on my Zed for almost 4 years now and they haven't had any detrimental effects on cooling. I've made numerous trips to the USA for various Zed events - ZDayZ in North Carolina, Z Nationals in Georgia and ZCon (in 2009) in San Antonio Texas. Not once did I ever experience a cooling issue. If anything, after replacing my defunct oem fan clutch and installing an AMS rad, my coolant temps have been dramatically lower than the average Zed. I can also possibly attribute that to having a Nismo thermostat in play. But needless to say that I'm quite happy with highway coolant temps of 167F to 172F and city temps of under 180F.
Perhaps another reason I'm so emphatic about the ZSpeedPerformance shields is the fact that I firmly believe that the strength and rigidity of the spalsh shield was the main reason I was not sidelined and required towing when I hit a 3' long 2"x8" plank (sitting on it's 2" edge) that was sitting in the middle of a highway late at night when going 120kph. Had it not been for ZSpeedperformance's super strong splash shield, I surely would have had the left hand Z1 SMIC destroyed and perhaps other major damage. As it was, I was still able to drive hone and there were no boost leaks encountere either.
Pics to follow on that situation when I dig them up.

    Why I prefer a metal splash tray over the oem plastic;

Guys if you are interested in the Aluminum pans I can probably hook up with a vendor here or in Aus somehwere to get you hooked up. Let me know if you all are interested and I will look into it.
