'92 AUSpec Auto NA with a rebuilt engine and new wiring loom fitted about 7000Kms ago. Symptoms: When started this morning, major miss. The car shuddered horribly when in gear. I put it away as I had to go out. I've just checked using conzult and done the power balance test. It shows cylinders 1, 3 and 5 not firing (or not firing properly) No codes, series 2 PTU. Any ideas where to look before I start pulling things apart? All help appreciated Cheers Andrew
Have you checked the spark on cylinders and also listened for each cylinder injector firing, Check you Cas if it's not doing 1 or the other... That's just for starters. It will wipe out a few potential issues
No recent work done, just the normal fluid checks. I'll check for spark on those cylinders. I'll check the CAS plug and PTU plugs as well, for starters. Cheers Andrew
There have been a few threads reporting a similar problem. http://www.google.com.au/#sclient=p....,cf.osb&fp=6676fa77a2e4d36f&biw=1280&bih=795 This one talks about a cam locating pin problem. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280693 Dont know if this IS your problem or if it can cause valve piston damage, but given your rebuilt engine is 7000k's old I would have a chat with the workshop, not so much from a warranty perspective, but working together could save a lot of tears for both.
One of two things could be wrong 1.You have a large vacuum leak on the passenger side of the plenum. Potential points of large leaks are: Intake resonator below passenger headlight 6mm vac hose from carbon canister to under plenum pipe IACV hoses Intake accordian EGR port under plenum 2. Intake cam gear locating pin has sheared on driver side putting that 1 camshaft out of phase. To check this you must gain access to that cam gear, remove the front cover plate and physically eyeball the pin to ensure it is where it should be.
Thanks Thanks for the ideas guys. looks like I've got some work to do tomorrow. I hope it's not the camshaft pin, but it's a Z, and Murphy's laws does apply..... I'll post up what I find tomorrow Cheers Andrew
