    Ok so my new spoiler has nowhere for a 3rd brake light and because I have an aus-spec I was wondering if instead of putting it behind heavily tinted glass, would I be able to put another set of brake lights into the aus-spec refelectors??

    So a few questions for anyone who knows about the legalities of such:

    Does the 3rd brake light need to be above the tail lights?
    Does it have to be in the centre?
    Is there only allowed to be one?

    Thanks

    -Mikey

    (also my new wheels came today, so watch this space soon :D )

    Yes according to the ADR it needs to be on the centre line of the car. it must be vertical and visible from 45degrees to each side of the centre line. There is no specification it has to be on the rear most part of the car and you might be able to place it in the upper most section of the rear window.
    Here is what SA has to say;

    ADR 60/.. - CENTRE HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LAMP

    INTENT
    To specify requirements for supplementary ?Centre High-Mounted Stop Lamp? on the rear of the vehicle to provide an additional indication to other road users, that the driver of the vehicle is applying the service brakes.

    The colour of the light emitted shall be red.
    The lamp shall;?
    ? have an effective projected luminous area of not less than 30 square centimetres;
    ? not contain symbols, letters or characters other than those necessary for part number, manufacturer?s identification and/or approval number identification;
    ? provide access for convenient replacement of the globe without the use of special tools;
    ? provide a steady warning light;
    ? not be ?grouped? with any other lamp;
    ? not be combined with any other lamp or reflective device;
    ? not be reciprocally incorporated with any other lamp;
    ? be illuminated when the service brakes of the vehicle are applied.
    The lamp is to be mounted such that it is:
    ? in width - on the vehicle?s median longitudinal plane;
    ? in height ? either not more than 150 mm above the bottom edge of the rear window or not less than 850 mm above the ground;
    ? facing rearward.
    ? if the lamp is mounted inside the vehicle it shall be shrouded to the glass, or other means shall be provided to minimise reflections from the light of the lamp upon the rear window glazing that might be visible to the driver when viewed directly, or indirectly, in the rear vision mirror

    Hope that helps.

    Mikey, please please PLEASE cut out the back of that spoiler and put in a third brake light infil panel. That would look the best by a clear mile.

    Call it an enhancement... it'll look 1000000 times better :(

    wouldn't bother with a third brake light otherwise.

    Leave it...

    Do you really want one?

    I removed mine and didn't replace it when I fitted my spoiler...

    I guess if you really wanted one you could put a 3rd party one inside the hatch glass up high...but if you have dark tint, it defeats the purpose if you can't see it.

    what about a little stick-on type LED strip where the brake light would have been?

    orrr you could stick one between the edge of the hatch and your center panel. when it lights up you can see them through the crack.

    I had one of those crap stick on high stop lights in the window when I bought mine - behind a heavy tint and it was never mentioned when I was pulled over.... they actually still show up pretty well.
